We're all home! And a sleep ?

Hey everyone - it's been a crazy couple of weeks but everyone is finally home!  After 11 days in the NICU, Alexis was discharged on Thursday. Chase wasn't too far behind and got to come home Saturday.  And life has been even more chaotic since :)

We're all getting along pretty well.  The days are good, they mostly just sleep and wake up to eat every 3-4 hours.  Nights are a different story.  A does well and keeps her same daytime patterns.  C however doesn't seem to want to sleep unless he's being held - which is exhausting.  We have them each in a PnP next to our bed.  DH is going to find a swaddle sleep sack for C and see if that will help him sleep better in the PnP/crib.  Any other tips on how to get them to sleep better?  Or is this just typical newborn stuff we have to go through?

Re: We're all home! And a sleep ?

  • Sounds pretty typical to me! Those first weeks are trial and error survival mode. Do what you need to do to help them sleep. It'll be exhausting for you guys, but take it one day at a time and know that it'll get better and easier!

So glad you're all home together!

  • E loved the woombie for when he was really little. We had some of the same sleep issues but they do get better!

  • I am so glad you are all home!

Those first weeks are all trial and error. S slept in the PNP for a couple days then we switched her to her crib since she was such a loud sleeper. That lasted a night then I would put her in her swing while I laid on the couch. We ended up bringing the swing upstairs for a couple of weeks then she always wanted to be held. She transitioned back to the PNP and last night slept in her crib all night.

What I am trying to say is, do what works. What worked yesterday might not work today, and that is ok! Just try to be flexible. We loved the swaddlemes and the fleece halo swaddle sleep sack.

  • Yay for everyone being home!

Like others have said, the first few weeks are trial and error. I slept on the recliner in the living room holding M for the first 2 weeks of her life. Then she started sleeping in the PNP in our room. Definitely try swaddling. Are they in the same PNP? If not maybe try putting them together, they might feel more content being next to each other.

  • Swaddling was huge for Kaitlyn.  I had the swaddlemes and they were great.  She slept best in the RNP next to me, but I was up a lot in those first few weeks.  Just finding what works best is a trial and error, but I hope you figure things out soon.
  • We used miracle blankets and have a shushing app on our phone, which helped a ton.  June had to sleep in the pnp because of her reflux but sounds like you already have them sleeping there.  It is a bunch of trial and error, but welcome to twin survival mode!  So happy they are both home now!

  • Glad you're all home!  I agree with pp's who said that it's just trial and error, and that what works today may not work tomorrow.  But you'll figure out what typically works for you guys!
