Let's discuss

I saw this on newsok.com this morning. Do you agree with this bill or not?

A bill that would allow some ex-felons to have their rights to possess firearms and other weapons restored is one of several gun bills being considered by a House panel.

The House Public Safety Committee is scheduled to hear a bill by Cordell Republican Rep. Todd Russ that would allow individuals convicted of a nonviolent felony who has completed their sentence and probationary period to have their gun rights restored. The bill would allow those individuals to also apply for a permit to carry a handgun.

Even those convicted of a violent felony could have their gun rights restored if they have completed their sentencing and received a pardon from the governor.

Under current law, only those convicted of a nonviolent felony can restore gun rights through a gubernatorial pardon.

Re: Let's discuss

  • WHY is this necessary?  Do we really have to react to any discussion of trying to prevent gun violence with "oh yeah? We're going to make sure there are MORE GUNS available to criminals.  Take that!"
  • So here's my opinion about this. I think no matter what kind of felon you are (be it violent or non-violent) you should not be able to own a gun. I do not agree with this bill. You are a criminal. You gave up the right to own a gun when you did the crime.

  • I agree. I don't think this bill is necessary, or a good idea. Just like several other bills going through the state government right now...
