Double oven?

We're shopping for appliances and trying to decide if we want/need a double oven. We're looking at the ovens that are the normal size but have two doors. The gas ovens we've looked at don't seem to have much room in each section. I cook most nights but nothing that really requires a lot of oven room but it would be nice when I am baking multiple things. I just don't know if its worth it for the one time every few months that I would actually need it. What are your thoughts on getting a double oven? Would it actually be of enough use?

Re: Double oven?

  • No one can really answer that for you. You have to decide, based on your current and assumed future lifestyle, what makes sense. We just built, and I went with a double oven. My mom basically told me it was a dumb choice, and now she's jealous. Do I use it every night? Nope. Every week? No. Monthly? Yes. Is it great to have when I need it because I cook regularly and often require different baking temps? Absolutely. Also, really measure the interiors. When our ovens were installed, we got nervous, as they appeared really small, and they are smaller than most, but most ovens waste space, as these efficiently fit roasting pans and most baking sheets.
  • I love ours. I don't use both ovens every day, but it definitely comes in handy when we're entertaining or for different events. I do definitely feel like I get enough use out of it to have justified the cost. In fact, I plan to make sure that I have double ovens in all of my future kitchens, ha. But you have to decide whether or not you would really get enough use out of it to justify it to yourself.
  • i'm more of a fan of side by side rather than stacked but that's just me. i dont have them. i'm sure i'd find a use for them if i did but only you can decide if you should get them or not.

  • If you have the space for it, and want it, go for it.  You'll probably use it 2-times a year, IMO.  We don't have a lot of counter space so we opted to remove the 2nd oven and install a microwave instead.  For us, this is a good use of space and works perfectly.  Every thanksgiving I miss my second oven, but for the rest of the year I appreciate the extra counter space!

  • I would go for it!

  • I would love to have double ovens but only if they were regular size. A few years ago I was in a house that had two small ovens and I HATED them. I had to buy new baking pans and it took forever to get my baking done - and I bake a lot.
