Accent wall advice

So I am painting our spare bedroom Monday.  Our main color for the whole house is Oatbarn (Valspar)

The bedding we have looks something like this

In our other house we painted the accent wall pomegranate.  It was my least favorite accent wall in our whole house, so I would like to do something diffrent.  Not really sure what though.  Should we just not have an accent wall in that room?

Re: Accent wall advice

  • You can skip the accent wall and go with a large piece of artwork.

With black bedding I would either do a LIGHTER color then the rest of the room for an accent wall, or skip it and do artwork. A darker accent behind the bed with such dramatic bedding I feel would make the wall and the bed compete for attention where as art above the bed would draw your eye up without competing and be more esthetically pleasing.

  • What about stripes for the accent? I'd use a lighter color, and you don't have to do a lot of stripes either. They can be nice wide stripes like this: (top picture)

I also like the mirror above the bed to reflect more light.

This can work well with the color you chose. In our bedroom, we chose blue and added darker blue stripes on the bed wall

Instead of one solid color, the stripes break it up and adds dimension.

  • I agree skip the accent wall and I like the idea of artwork. Also the stripes aren't bad I would just worry about that with the "stripes" of the bedding.
  • I like vineyard's stripes idea.  This is a similar idea - painting an accent wall a light color, and then doing one darker stripe of the same through the middle (IE, the entire wall is light blue with one darker blue stripe though it).  One stripe would be easier than many =]

As far as colors go...with cream + black I like lavender, blue, green.  Pretty much could go any direction, my preference just generally gravitates to cooler colors.  Our bedroom is painted a very similar color to yours, and our other colors are blue, black, and not quite gold/not quite silver metallic accents.

I love that you did an awsome job!!  I don't know if I am that talented?  The room our bed is on has a window just like yours.

The single strip looks awesome too!  I'm going to talk to DH tonight and see what he thinks.  I didn't think of lavender.  I love lavendar and wonder what DH would think.  It is just the guest room.
