Our first night home in 5 words

Thank. Goodness. For. Baby. Swings.

Oh, and 4 words directed at DH: I. Told. You. So.

Our friends let us borrow their swing from their kids and DH didn't think we should use it because "we have enough stuff" and "OUR kid will sleep in his crib every night." I tried to explain to him that every baby is different and that the first two months are just "do whatever you have to do" months in terms of sleep, etc.

Initially last night L seemed to like his crib, and he slept about 2 hours in it. Meanwhile I cried to DH that I didn't like him being so far away from us (especially since we couldn't get the monitor to work -- we fixed if finally). When L woke up I went and fed him and changed him and suddenly he was not having any of this crib business. So we put him in the swing and voila. Sleep. And because DH knew I would worry, he slept on the couch in the living room with L :)

This also eventually allowed me a solid 3.5 hours of sleep!!! I woke up at 7:30 feeling almost refreshed so I went out to the living room and told DH to go back to bed. L is still passed out in the swing and I'm pumping next to him.

I know the swing isn't ideal but it allowed people to sleep, so I'm going with it for now. And hopefully DH will continue to realize that the more "My kid will NEVER"s that he says, the more they will bite him/us in the booty.

  • I'm glad everyone was able to get some sleep!

  • You gotta do what you have to do to get sleep for everyone. Glad it worked.

A sleeps in the rocknplay at night and swing for naps. Just this week we took her to her room for the night in her rocknplay. Before that it was beside our bed.

  • Lol I love saying that to my DH. We use a swing on the nursery :) They work like a charm :) It's suprising how refreshing an hour of sleep feels like after no sleep at all.

  • For the first week R slept in her swing too. It was a lifesaver.

  • First couple of months LT slept in his swing half the night (in our room.) No harm done- now he sleeps all night in his pack n' play!

    Glad everyone got some sleep!

  • OMG I'm currently trying to convince DH that we need a swing as well, and like your DH mine says we have enough stuff. I may have to just go buy it myself because I know DS would love it. Glad you were able to get some rest, hopefully it continues!

I'd die w/o mine. Only way I get a shower and food some days. Worth it to me.

  • He likes his bouncer seat too and napped in that earlier. We haven't used it as much yet because the dogs try to lick his face if he's down that low to the ground and not swinging out of reach. But the swing? Maaaaaagic.
