Sleeping in Room vs. In Crib
I went on one of my OCD Google hunts and started researching ways to reduce the risk of SIDS and one of the things discussed was to have LO sleep in room with you. We weren't planning on this as our room and the baby room are only about 15 feet apart and our bedroom is pretty small to accommodate a PNP in there. How many of you had LO's in room with you and if so what did they sleep in and how many people had LO in their own crib? FWIW we live in a one story house so I wouldn't need to go up and down steps with a sleeping kid.
Re: Sleeping in Room vs. In Crib
We only used it for the first six weeks because the APA recommends they sleep flat on their backs. That's why we got a cosleeper. We didn't hook it to our bed, but the mini one is the perfect fit. It's basically a small PNP. We use it now when we travel/visit my family.
I am planning on having the baby sleep in the crib right away because of the reasons mentioned - our room is 10 feet from the other room, our room is small, etc.
We will get a crib and a PNP, so if we decide, we can always set up the PNP in our room.
I thought I read somewhere that the safest place for the baby to sleep is in the crib (?).

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
Our LO will be rooming in with us until we move into a different house or until I feel comfy enough to let the kid sleep downstairs. We also are considering bed sharing - depending on how the crib thing goes.
I think it's a great idea to have your LO room in with you at least for the first few weeks. I'm a firm believer it's good for them to be close.
This is the general "rule". I think a lot of ladies do what they can to get sleep - hence the RNP and swings. It all depends on what you read, believe, and feel comfortable with.

C is in our room and i dont forsee us moving him for at least another month. he sleeps in the rock n play generally, although he has a lot of labored breathing and we have to prop him up with folded blankets to elevate his neck just right. that alone makes me way too nervous to have him in anothet room. we have tried to let him nap in his crib but he just wont yet. he wakes up after a few minutes.
i honestly (maybe flameful) really want to just bedshare. he breathes easiest when he is very close to us or being held. i sometimes do let him sleep in our bed with his head in the crook of my arm. i was 100% against bedsharing before he was born but you never know what will be best for your family until they arrive.

We also have a one story house. Baby sleeps in a mini-cosleeper (I bought gently used off Craigslist), and it is worth it to me to have her in the room. At the beginning I was waking up every 2 hours to feed her, and now she goes 3 or 3.5. Now at her middle of the night feeding I just sit up, pick her up, feed her, and put her right back down. So much easier than getting out of bed and walking down the hall.
Once she can go about 5 hours without eating, we'll transition her to her crib.
We attempted to have LO sleep in our room but it just didn't work out. He slept loud and was bothered by our sleeping/movements. He went to his room at about a week old.
If we get PG (TTC now) here we will most likely have to roomshare until the new LO is sleeping through the night. I highly doubt base housing will move us to a 3 bedroom but if they do then the new LO would most likely stay with us in a rock n play for a few weeks before transitioning to their own room.
