When would you worry about cramping?

I know "mild" cramping is normal for where I am, however since yesterday I have had on and off pain on only the right side.  When I went to the RE on Thursday she mentioned I had a corpus luteum (she didn't say cyst) on the right ovary. Could this be causing the pain?  Would you call?

Re: When would you worry about cramping?

  • I would call just for reassurance personally. I figure it doesn't hurt to call and ask. I don't know if a corpus luteum can cause pain but I would guess so. Isn't that a cyst?

  • I had horrible cramping for weeks, it would wake me from a dead sleep... They said to come in only if it was with bleeding.

I hope it goes away for you soon! It hurts, I'm sorry.

  • Thanks ladies! Luckily no bleeding, but I am going to call in the morning just in case.

  • Cramping is scary, there were days/weeks that I would go to the bathroom expecting to see blood and there never was. If I were you I'd call just for the reassurance but I wouldn't really worry unless there was blood.

  • I had cysts and they hurt and everything was fine but if it would make you feel better than call. I had cramping and pain until like 13 weeks.

  • I had cysts but they did not bother me.  However, I did have mild cramping on and off throughout my entire pregnancy.  The doctor told me to not worry unless there was blood.  I would call just to make sure though.

  • The corpus luteum is what's left over after your egg leaves the ovary. It's technically a cyst, and I suppose it could cause pain. You may also be having some stretching pain too. Or, honestly, it could be your bowels cramping, too.

I would call if the pain isn't relieved by rest and tylenol (if you're comfortable taking it -- it's very safe medication in pregnancy) or obviously if there is bleeding associated with it. And if you're worried about anything, it's always better to call than to sit around and worry about it.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • At this gestational age I would only be concerned if it was constant (not off and on) and accompanied by bleeding. A corpus luteum can cause cramping. At this point there isn't anything a dr can do to make it stop or evaluate by ultrasound. I would drink water, rest a bit and ride it out, personally.

  • My CL cyst caused a lot of pain and cramping, I did have a bit of blood at 8 weeks, but it was unrelated. It never hurts to call :)
