WWYD?

Long time no see! It's been nutty here in WF!

Bear (bare, English people, what IS the right spelling there?) with me for the douchey-ness of this WWYD. I know I should know the answer, but I'm being a little selfish and whiney! So. Without further adieu..

FIL called about 1 month ago and invited our little family to go with him, his wife, and her son/DIL/grandson to Disneyland. The grandson will be 2 when we go, N will be very near 3. They are paying for everything. Including plane, car, park, lodging, everything. We'd fly in on Wed to Vegas where they live, drive to Anaheim on Fri early am, back to Vegas on Sun evening, home to WF on Tue/Wed. We haven't officially agreed to go yet because DH is having trouble getting a yes or no on whether or not his shady boss will let him off.

Fast-forward to last week. DH's mom calls (FIL and MIL are divorced) and wants our address. DH's cousin and his wife are having a wedding. They got married at JOP a little over a year ago when the wife got KU'd. The wedding is the same weekend of the Disney trip. The wedding is in Fort Collins, Co. We would probably drive there, that's 3 hours to Lubbock to drop off the four-legged kids at my moms, and almost 10 hours without stops to FC- with a 2 yr old. And then a whole lot of sitting around since no one in our family is in the wedding. And then a wedding with a 2 yr old. And then a drive home.

So... my vote is obviously for Disney. DH is having some guilt over choosing Disney because that particular cousin came to our wedding. What would you choose? Is it totally douchebaggery to choose Disney? Thanks ladies!

What do you mean that's the wrong side? Tastes great to me!

Re: WWYD?

  • You were invited to Disney first, and they're already married so that makes attending the wedding less important to me (maybe that's bitchy?). I say if you want to go to Disney, go!

  • I agree with drillers. I'd pick Disney. Weddings are not fun for kids and that makes it even less fun for Mama. And especially after a long car ride. I would just tell them you are sorry, but you already have plans that weekend.

  • I agree with the 2 previous post. You were invited on an expense paid trip before the you were told about the wedding. Plus Disney will be a great experience for your little one.

  • Disney for me, too. First-come, first-served.

  • I think you should go to Disney and not feel bad about it at all.  No one should expect you to cancel travel plans you have already made in order to attend their wedding. I think it would actually be kind of rude to your FIL to cancel on the trip.
  • Yup. I also agree. The Disney trip was brought up first, so you should go to that. Don't feel bad for missing the wedding; I agree with critti that it would be a little rude to cancel on FIL.

  • Disney, hands down. I think it would hurt FILs feelings if you refused him to go to the other. Besides after Disney y'all can come visit us!! ;)

  • I wouldn't be going to that kind of trouble for a wedding long after the couple married and had a kid even without Disney. Since you have a prior commitment, it's a no brainer for me. Send a gift and be done with it.
