Eye opener

I was sent an email this weekend about a family in need.

The family (with two children 1 and 3) is graduating the City Rescue Mission's family program.  They have lived at the shelter for right at 1 year....  They brought their newborn daughter "home" to a homeless shelter.

I groaned because we brought our youngest home to our temporary rent house.  I hated the fact that he didn't (still doesn't) have a real nursery and that it isn't really our home.

This family lived in a room at a homeless shelter and are grateful for everything. They now have their own place and the father has a full time stable job.

Now, I am trying to figure out what I have that can be given to them for their household and what I should buy.  My family is spoiled and this was a reminder of just how spoiled we are.

The email hit me like the letter that St. Jude sends out a week after the birth of my kids. I get irritated with the timing but it is such a real and needed reminder.

Re: Eye opener

  • City Rescue Mission is one of my favorite places to give.  They do such amazing work.

  • That's awesome that you are touched in that way and that you can make the realization that there are some much needier people out there. I used to do volunteer work all the time and I look forward to the day I can do it again.
