Do any of you buy your mail carrier a Christmas present? I haven't in the past but on a whim this weekend I bought him a card and thought I'd get a gift card of some sort to stick inside. I know the postal service has limits so I'd stay in those guidelines.
Questions:
I don't know my mail carrier's name and sometimes we have a sub carrier. Do I call the post office to get his name or write "To my regular mail carrier" on the envelope so the correct person gets it (sounds corny I know)?
Ideas for a small gift or place to get gift card? Or should I just do the card?
Thanks!

Re: Gift for Mail Carrier
The first few years we lived in our home we had a regular woman carrier who was super friendly and always took time out to chat if she saw us outside, ask how our day was going, mention the weather, etc. She was so sweet in the weeks leading up to our wedding too and would get excited for us when she saw us getting all our RSVP's and packages. Those years I gave her a small bag of homemade cookies w/ some Hershey kisses tossed in too. And she was so thankful...not sure if she ever ate them or not, but at least she acknowledged.
Now we seem to have a different carrier every few days, it's hard to keep track really. So we haven't left anything out the last 3 years or so since it would just be luck of the draw for whomever delivered our mail that day...and honestly, none of them are near as nice or personable as our original carrier, sad to say.
I think leaving a small homemade gift would be nice...some cookies, candy, choc. covered pretzels, hot cocoa mix, etc. Maybe calling the post office to see if they could tell you your reg. carrier's name/schedule would be ok too, but I'm not sure they'd give out that info. You may just have to leave it and hope that the right person gets it.
My Dad's a mail carrier. He usually gets things like homemade cookies and candy, lottery tickets, cash, gift cards. We eat the homemade goodies - there are certain really good ones we look forward to every year! It's always really appreciated and sends thank yous back to everyone.
