Summer Vacation

Help Amber out with some activity on the board today. :)

So anyone have their summer vacation planned? We are trying but some of the other families do not know their vacation week yet. Driving me nuts. I know I should be greatful to even be able to plan a summer vacation. :P We will go to the OBX with these other families unless some major change.

Just thought the idea of thinking about summer and beach would help on this blah friday.

TGIF!

Re: Summer Vacation

  • Sadly, we are skipping the beach with the BFFs this year because of our Disney trip in the fall.  So at this point, I am looking forward to taking the kids to the pool in the summer, and starting to plan for Disney pretty soon Smile  As excited as I am about Disney, I will be excited to be back at the beach the next summer with them!!

And Caron-I feel your pain on the lack of planning, I hate having to wait on other people to make up their minds in order to get things done!!

  • I think we are going to Ocean City.   Not definite yet, but I bet we will end up there. Which will seem so lackluster after last year's vacay.   But, it's the beach and my family will be there - which means other people around to watch my kids!
  • We are heading to OCMD for a week in August. It's been 5 years since we went with my parents, brother, SIL & niece. I'm really looking forward to it!

  • No idea! We might venture down to my parents' house, south of Myrtle, around Labor Day, but I'm not too sure. My parents just put a bid on a house in Vero Beach, so our SC vacations (with free lodging!) are probably limited now!

If we don't go anywhere, though, I want to get DH onboard with an overbight Idlewild trip at least. We'll see - I like to plan these things in my head, but DH never wants to follow through!

  • We doing a mini-vacay to Busch Gardens and Kings Dominion in May and visiting some of my old hangouts and friends down in Richmond.

In June, we are doing 3 days at Niagara Falls and then a day at Great Wolf Lodge Niagara with my parents and sister/BIL/nephews so that will be a lot of fun.

DH has a conference in Vegas at the end of July/beginning of August so we are all going since he has a suite in Caesars Palace.  Nothing like rocking in DD's first birthday in style.  I'll have to add a light kit or something to her stroller to let her rock it out  ;)

Then I have a conference in San Francisco this fall so we'll all be going out there for a bit then heading to Napa too.

I always try to have something planned so it gives me something to look forward to.

However, I am in the 360-ish countdown to Disney and I think I am more excited about that!

  • We just got back from Florida, where it felt like summer!  It is so depressing to be back in this weather.

We have our annual beach trip to Rehoboth in September - which will be our last year to go at that time since Mason will be starting kindergarten the following year (which, Crying).  It was nice to avoid the beach crowds while it lasted!

I'd like to do a weekend or night in State College, which we wanted to do last year but didn't get around to it.  Not sure if it will be a family trip or a friends/no kids trip.

My mom, sister, and family friends of ours are supposed to do a NYC girls weekend, that might end up being this summer depending on when we can coordinate our schedules.

  • Like Emmy, our beach trip is being canceled due to Disney.  And we also have a substantial pool repair budget for this summer. So we will just enjoy those repairs!
  • We're not really going anywhere this summer (I have some dental bills to pay, so we're going to take it easy on extras so we can get it paid off ASAP). We are taking DD on a day trip for her birthday in April, but that's about it.

We were talking this weekend, though, about possibly taking a vacation next year. We're thinking we'll hit southern Georgia to visit my dad, go to Orlando from there for a day at Disney and then head over to Tampa and Bradenton to see some Spring Training. Should be fun!

  • Our 10th anniversary is in July, and we are going to go somewhere we just haven't decided yet. Guess I should get on that!

We will also probably head to SC with my family, although destination is yet to be determined, either North Myrtle or Hilton Head depending on availability since there is a ton going on with my sister's wedding, my baby sister graduating and other family fun!

I also think we are going to try and take some weekend trips: DC, Hershey, New River Gorge in WV.

  • We are also skipping the beach this summer to go to Disney in the spring. We didn't go last summer either b/c of the move. I'm not a huge beach person now that we have kids, so I'm fine with it. Maybe when they're a little older and our schedules aren't as restricted I'll enjoy the beach more, but for now it's just too much crap to haul around to sit on hot sand and worry about sunburns!
  • We have nothing planned so far which is so unlike me b/c I'm a planner but we have some things going on in the fall that may tweak our budget so I'm hesitant to plan something big.   DH & I are going to Boston for a wedding in August and he may take the kids to my cousins in June while I travel for work :(.  Other than that we have a time share to use by July but not sure that will happen.  If we don't we'll do Idewild for a day and other trips around town. And lots of pool time.

  • This is a fantastic post! :-) Thanks for sharing because it makes us all think of summer and the beach or vacation!

We are going to North Carolina (Holden Beach area) in March! :-) I am excited! It will be with his family but it will be a great trip!

Definitely something to look forward to! Although it's a nice sunny day here today!

Hope everyone else has a great stay-cation or vacation! :-)

Ironically, I enjoy the beach more now that I have kids!  I used to get bored at the beach...now, I'm just exhausted by the end of the week from chasing them around, but I find that I enjoy myself more while there!

I'm the same way!  We have our beach routine down to a science now though as far as what we bring to the beach, plenty of shade options, vacationing with family (ie, helpers), etc. The boys love the beach, and we always enjoy ourselves.  And the beach is easier for us to manage Garrett, our runner away-er. Smile

  • Believe me.... you Disney girls are going to happy to take a beach vacation the next summer. Wink
  • We're doing our annual easter week trip to NYC to see Steve's family in March.

DH and I are going to do a long weekend away in July to Mondreal/Quebec City.

My sister is trying to see if she can get a week at her IL's beach house in Virginia. If that happens and we have a free week we'll go down there in August with her and my BIL, and our parents. If not, then no other summer travel is planned beyond some weekend at the lake.

  • Also, beach vacations are really relaxing when waiters bring rum drinks to you on the beach.  We were so relaxed last year, I even let Noah play in the ocean with friends while we watched from lounge chairs.  It had to be the rum!

Agreed.  We usually only have helpers for a day or so when Brian's parents come to visit, but my BFF's boys are roughly the same age as Jake & Liam, so they have built-in entertainment for the week.  And I'm sure people think we're crazy, but we do so much planning ahead of time (including grocery shopping and knowing which nights we're going to eat what for dinner), that once we're down there, it's really not bad at all since we do a lot of the stuff ahead of time.
