Hi Ladies,
Just wondering everyone's preference for vacations..H and I are going to Vegas (driving 10 1/2 hours) Thursday morning, staying Thursday and Friday night...I work Mon-Fri and H works 10's Sun-Wed, so, I am taking a short work week and doing PTO for Thurs and Fri and H is going to take Sunday off and just work Thursday instead. H got a good bonus last month, we aren't big gamblers and don't stay in fancy hotels when we do go to Vegas. Whenever I go on vacations, I stay as long as I possibly can, even if it means going to work the next day and not having a day to rest..I suggested we stay Saturday night and drive back Sunday, but H wants thinks we should rest up for the work week.
P.S. H will probably win this one, but I was just curious
What do you ladies usually do? prolong your vacation, or shorten it and take have a relax day before the work week?
Re: Vacations...
I prolong my vacation. H rests up and wants an extra day before work.
We have compromised on this one... on long vacations we typically come back a day earlier than I'd like. On weekend vacations (especially when it's my family) we tend to come back a little late and he's getting a little more used to that. The best is when he takes that day off and I go to work so we're both happy.
He thinks I'm crazy and I think... why waste time? my vacation's too precious to take and spend at home.
If you're into outdoors stuff go to the BLM's "Red Rocks" area right outside of Vegas- it's really an amazing area and I've been on quick little hikes around there that were stunning. Last time I think it was like $10 but I have a federal lands pass so I don't really know. You can also drive through the area and see wild burros and stuff.
We generally like a day at home before going to work so we can get ourselves together, like laundry and any other household stuff that needs to get done. If we go away for a week, we'll go say 6 days so on the 7th we have that day to do what we need to. For our honeymoon, we flew on a Monday and came home Sunday. I actually have Monday's off, so it works for me anyway. I don't feel like we're really shortening our vacations because I'm usually ready to come home after being away for 5 or 6 days. For our anniverysary, we planned a stay at the hotel we got married at for Sat and Sunday nights, come home on Monday afternoon, and we're going camping the rest of the week. We'll leave probably Tuesday and come back Saturday.
I think for a lot of people it depends on what type of career you have. Any job (like mine & my H) where you are working on patients - you can't really do that after traveling most of the night and just going to work after 3-4 hours of sleep. Or any job where a high amount of concentration is required. If I had an office job where I just had to sit at a desk all day I'd probably prolong the vacation, but I don't so we usually have one day at home to relax & catch up on laundry/unpack.
I am seeing everyone's vacation photos everywhere and it's making me insanely jealous! H and I have already decided that we are going to Orlando next February, because it's just a really good time to get away. We are going to Hawaii for 10 days at the end of May and that trip can't get here soon enough! SOOO excited!!!
<-------jealous!
Same here. Usually the trips where we have to fly are longer and I need that extra day to sleep/do laundry/relax before going back to work.

I would rather have a day BEFORE the trip. For example we are finally taking our HM at the end of April and although it crossed my mind to go Saturday to Saturday and have a day to rest before going back to work, it made more sense for us to go Sunday to Sunday because we would have to leave Friday night right after work to travel to Boston and stay overnight because our flight leaves at 7am on Saturday morning. This would leave us little time to pack and I know I would feel rushed and stressed about traveling.
