I have jury duty

Sad.  I got it in the mail 1 month ago. My friend got called right before I did but hers was cancelled. I was banking on that mine would...not such luck.

I made sub plans but I am such a control freak about my job that I like to be there so I know whats going on. I hope I don't get picked to be in the trial.

The school just called snow day! BOOOO

Re: I have jury duty

  • Good luck! I hope you don't get picked!
  • That's a bummer. Can't you save your sub plans for another day when you'll be out. That's what I would do.

Married the love of my life on 1-21-12. Our princess arrived on 5-28-13.

  • I wish that they would let you pick when jury duty is convenient for you. I hope that you don't get picked either.

I don't have a problem with the whole jury duty concept, but they really do make it inconvenient.  With Virginia, you have a jury duty day (lets say Tuesdays) for an entire month.  On Monday night (after 5pm), you have to call to see if your group is being called in the following morning.

Where I work, this is pretty much after everyone has gone home for the day.  So pretty much, I have to tell my boss when I get the notice that on any given Tuesday, there's a possibility of me just not showing up with no notice.  I do happen to have my boss' number, so at least I can call and let him know what's up.

It would be so nice if you could call like two nights in advance or something.

I actually messed up the call one night.  And just so happened it was the day my group was called.  At that point you're dismissed for the rest of the month and issued a summons to appear in order to "explain yourself".  In reality, you show up with everyone else who missed during your month, get a lecture from the judge, and have the option of saying you'll serve another month or getting an audience with the judge.  Ended up actually serving a month and a half of jury duty.  Half of my original month and then my new month.

Didn't actually have to go in.

A couple of years ago, I actually had to go in one day.  Sat in a waiting room for half the day.  No electronics of any kind.  There was a TV in the room.  A bunch of people brought books, but I didn't.
