Does anyone have a car ramp for their dog?

I think we need to get a ramp for our dog.  Physically, I think he can still get jump into the crv but he slipped a couple of times and now he's scared and won't do it.  Now it's a major struggle getting him to jump up into the car and I'm affraid he's going to hurt himself.  He weighs almost 90 lbs.  Dh has been picking him up and putting him in  but  he's way too heavy for me to pick up.

So, does anyone have a ramp reccomendation?   I'm not sure how I'm going to fit a lab and a ramp in the back of a crv.

Re: Does anyone have a car ramp for their dog?

  • My Inlaws have one for their lab who is also huge and my father in law recently had health issues and couldn't lift the dog. Let me find out the scoop. ??
  • We looked into them. We were either going with Dr. Foster & Smith, which has a bunch to choose from but we were leaning towards this one because we also have a 125 lb American Bulldog who was facing CCL surgery and it had a high weight limit (our lab is now about 85 lb). Although this model comes in a half-ramp which may help on the space issue. Or this one from Cabela's so that it would also work with my husband's truck or FJ which are higher than my Jeep.
  • Thank you both!

  • My parents needed one for their golden, they initially bought a ramp but it was narrow and their dog was a little skittish and if it budged even the slightest, it made him very nervous.  They ended up having a handman contstruct a set of steps.  He put them on wheels (with little locks on them-castors?) so they could easily wheel the steps to the car for loading and unloading, then wheel them to the side of the garade.  The handyman also covered the steps in outdoor carpeting for traction.  They are awesome!  Have no idea what happened to that handyman, but I have a guy I bet could do it if you need someone.  The steps are a few feet wide so their dog was not afraid at all, and used to steps!
