Finally Credit Card Debt Free!

I posted here a couple months back that we had fallen behind on some bills.  My credit cards were getting close to being 3 months behind.  I didn't know what to do.

So, this is what I did:

I got a second job and started a small business.  My DH took on side jobs.  We did not spend money on ANYTHING unless it would feed us or provide us shelter.

Well I am thrilled to say, we have not only caught up on paying the credit cards, they are PAID OFF in full.  I want to shout it out from the rooftop.

I also want to thank you ladies who provided support and direction, I am grateful for your help.

I also did not realize the importance of an emergency fund, but was glad we started one when two weeks ago we found water coming into our electrical panel and had to replace the entire electrical system (to the tune of $1800).  Something like this would have crushed us before we got serious about our financial situation.  Even though it killed me to write an $1800 check out of our efund, I was so glad I had the money to pay for it and did not have to put it on a credit card.

I just wanted to share my story.  Like I said, I thought my situation was hopeless but with a lot of hard work, it turned out great.

Thanks again for the support.

  • Awesome! How much in debt were you?

We don't have any credit cards. Working on our e-fund since DS' medical bills drained our savings last year. Thank goodness for tax returns.

It was about $6000.  Truly the saving grace was DH's side jobs.  I am not sure we would have been able to make as much progress without that.

Now, onto the car payment, student loans and the house.

  • Awesome, congrats! And GL with the rest of your debts - it sounds like you'll have them paid off before you know it!

that's cool.  I've started selling things we have around the house that we don't need on craigslist for extra money.  If only I could sell that dang wedding dress.  It's been the hardest to get rid of.  I put that money in our savings account for efund.

Wedding dresses are sooo hard to sell.  You only get pennies on the dollar.

I sold mine on eBay, but it was a $99 David's Bridal gown that sold for $79

  • Congrats!  Way to buckle down!

that's not very comforting:)  I paid $1,000 for everything I'm selling and have lowered it to $300.  At this point I would take $250.  This is from my first marriage so there is no sentimental value for me.  I've tried craigslist and am thinking maybe there would be a website that could help me out.

I came down to putting mine on Ebay with no reserve. Included veil and all. It went for $100, which I was happy with, because then we didn't need to keep storing it. Be sure to post very detailed pictures, and ones of someone wearing it show the best.
