Just a friendly reminder that if the pictures on your desktop/notebook are important to you, it would behoove you to back that sh!t up. Whether it's to another pc, external disk drive, or to a cloud service, please do so. Immediately!
Last night, I accidentally deleted my entire picture folder. It was too large for the Recycle Bin so it was *really* deleted. I downloaded some recovery software last night, and I was able to find maybe 10% of the pics. Mostly everything is corrupted, blah blah blah. I just mailed my hard drive out with hopes that Gillware can forensically recover the files. Thankfully, they have an 85% success rate...for the small price of $350-500. Ouch!
Needless to say, I want to scream right now. I'm most upset about 2011; all of our wedding & honeymoom related pics are from then, and so are the pics of my dad I had to scan/gather/dig up from old relatives of my dad for his funeral that year.
Thanks for reading my PSA / Vent / Pity Party.
Re: PSA: My Own Stupidity
Oh god I am so sorry. I really hope they can recover this stuff for you.
Is there any chance you uploaded stuff to a photosharing website? You can usually order disks with high res photos.
This is my worst nightmare and almost happened to me 3 times. Thankfully my BIL is a programmer for Microsoft and was able to recover all of my files through MS-DOS. After the second time, I bought a subscription for Backblaze, which automatically backs up your entire hard drive any time you add something new to it. It's ~$5/month for 1 year subscription.
I am without a functioning computer yet again because of the same issue, but I was able to login to Backblaze from my phone to see that it was last backed up the night before the computer got messed up. When I buy a new laptop, I will be able to recover every file to the new laptop as part of the subscription by downloading (which is time-consuming) or I can order a disk or flash drive for an extra fee.
I have an external hard drive but I do not back up my files often enough. But now knowing that anytime I save something to my laptop it is automatically backed up offsite is awesome. I have such peace of mind.
That sucks!! I'm sorry to hear that. It happened to me when our last laptop broke. Luckily, I had copies of most of the prints, but those files were lost forever.
I hope you're able to recover more of them!
This is one of my worst fears and I really need to do something since my husband has hijacked my laptop and I'm sure he isn't careful with it. He's almost broken it once, when he got it wet.
I hope you're able to recover what you've lost. Good luck!
It's so irritating! Especially since I work for an IT company. I know better; guess I'm just lazy
I'm going to check out some of the services you gals mentioned. Thanks.
