C-Section Mamas Come In

When did you start shaving over your incision?  Liam is 3 months old and I am still petrified to shave right over my incision.  Please tell me it will be ok and I can start shaving over it.  Embarrassed

Re: C-Section Mamas Come In

  • I'm only two weeks out from mine so I have no advice, but I understand the fear -- I am scared to wear pants and normal underwear :( Any idea when that gets better?

    Good luck with shaving!

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • Thanks!

I started wearing regular underwear around 8 weeks, but I made sure they were a little baggy.  The material sticking to my incision bothered me more than the top of the underwear touching my incision.  I wore sweats and other gym-like pants until about 8 weeks as well.  I still have to buy pants a little big but that is due to my pooch getting in the way.

  • I was terrified the first time I shaved. I can't remember exactly, but it was either right before or right after my 6 week follow-up. I've noticed that it's really important to prevent ingrown hairs, so I actually pluck out any hairs that are in the incision in addition to shaving, and I haven't had any problems. It's scary, but feels so much better afterwards. Make sure to moisturize afterwards!

  • I get waxed.  I'm a little nervous (planning on going on Sunday, I wanted to get my 6 week out of the way and get okay'd by the dr), but it's still kind of numb there, so I think it'll be okay.  I just want to get it done and over with!

  • Out of curiosity, why are you scared to do it?  Has your incision not healed right?  I'm still numb there a little, but as long as it looks okay, I don't see why shaving would be bad.  My incision is right under my pooch, which I hate, so I can't totally straighten out my skin to shave it, so it will be nice to have it all gone with wax.

For me, it was purely psychological. I knew it was healed, but I'd never had surgery before so I just didn't know what it was going to feel like. I think I made it a bigger deal than it needed to be.

  • Thankfully, there are only a few stray hairs in that area, so I can take care of it easily and very carefully. Even at six months, it is still sensitive and pinchy/itchy sometimes.

  • I'd be okay shaving it but I just can't see it by looking down with the pooch there

  • Around 6 weeks. Just make sure to clean and moisturize it well. I hate my pooch...it just makes that whole area feel gross. It doesn't hurt to shave, though. It's still a bit numb, almost 6 months later. IT takes a while for all the nerves to heal and go back to normal.
  • Hmm I think I remember finally shaving at 10 weeks pp? I did go very slowly, though.

  • I can't quote from my tablet, but I know it's all in my head.  However, my pooch covers up my incision.  I still sometimes get a pinching feeling in that area, but I can't tell if it is my incision or the pressure from the pooch.
