Typically, I have zero interest in today's pop culture, but this caught my eye. Joan Rivers and Fashion Police...okay...personally, I could care less, but I just can't "get" why negative comments about people's physical appearance are (still)acceptable these days.
"Who doesn?t love Adele? Joan Rivers, apparently.
The typically uncensored ?Fashion Police? host made some harsh comments about Adele?s weight during her appearance on ?The Late Show With David Letterman.?
When speaking about her experience attending the Oscars, Rivers gushed that she got to meet Adele. But after Letterman replied, calling the singer a ?lovely woman,? Rivers held out her hands widely around her and puffed out her cheeks, taking an obvious crack at Adele?s weight.
The audience booed Rivers, who scoffed at their response.
?What?s her song? ?Rolling in the Deep?? She should add fried chicken,? Rivers quipped.
After a moment, Letterman quickly changed the subject and Rivers followed suit.
But the comment wasn?t the first time the comedian has mocked the singer?s weight.
After the Oscars, Rivers tweeted: ?On Sunday night, you could easily pick Adele's Oscar statuette out of a lineup. It was the only one wearing Spanx.?
Similarly, shortly after the signer gave birth last year, Rivers reportedly tweeted: ?Congratulations to Adele on the birth of her 68 pound 8 ounces bouncing baby boy.?"
Re: Joan Rivers = Rotten Egg
This and the post office! I can't believe we agree twice in one week!
I can't stand Joan Rivers. I agree that she is revolting.
I get that her schtick is inappropriate humor and I typically do find that funny.
However, poking fun at Adele's weight isn't creative or funny. It's a lame and frankly lazy "joke." Joan Rivers was funny at one time. Now she is sad and pathetic, grasping for relevance.
I am on board with this being just plain ignorant.
All I am gonna say is Adele is naturally beautiful (regardless of what her weight might be). Whereas Ms. Rivers has had what, a gazillion plastic surgery procedures and, well, um, doesn't look anywhere near beautiful.
that pregnancy comment hit me hard. That's uncalled for. I gained 76 when I was pregnant with DD. Every little comment about my weight made me cry
I like Adele, but she did look huge, and the dress was unflattering.
On Fashion Police, she makes comments on people's looks and appearance. Don't get into entertainment if you want comments on your intellect. It's the shallowest business in the world.
I need to clarify my comments. I skim read and assumed she was commenting on the Oscar dress on her show. If she was not and was generally talking about Adele as a guest on the Letterman show, that was rude.
I don't think women should be disparaged on their looks at all. I am just saying that it's to be expected in the business, esp. considering the dearth of roles for older women not named Streep or Mirren.
