Have you been watching The Americans?? Did you see last night's episode? I thought it was great!

Re: *missymo*

  • Yes! I loved it.  Mighta been my favorite episode so far.  I am really impressed with Keri Russell, who I never used to like much.   The trunk scene had me biting my nails.  I already care about these characters...which is saying something for me!
  • Just a note for anyone interested in watching: Marathon on FX starting tonight.  It's only 5 episodes, so not really much of a marathon.
  • I'm starting to like the neighbor/FBI guy too (although he seems like kind of a crappy husband). I don't know who to root for! I think the characters on the show are just so interesting. But I hope we learn more about Phillip's backstory soon.

  • The neighbor gives me a creepy mccreeperson vibe.

The "nice calves in those heels" scene reminded me of the old school harrassment PSA.

  • Honestly, I don't really like the FBI guy.  I'm not the hugest fan of that actor, so it probably colors my opinion.  I need to give him a chance.  He is a crappy husband though.

The interesting thing about the show for me is that while I am rooting for Phillip and Elizabeth (I really like these characters), I am not rooting for or liking any of the other Russians. But I also don't really like any of the actual Americans either.  Ahhh!

  • I think what made me like him was when the informant told him how she had gotten the info, he seemed genuinely upset. He seemed to suddenly realize what he was making her do, and he seemed to regret it.

I agree he seemed genuinely horrified. But, honestly, he was hoping she would do whatever needed to be done.  And she did!

It is interesting that it seems a LOT of sexy time needs to happen for the spying to go down (poor Elizabeth).  Probably accurate!

He came off as having feelings for her.  It read as jealousy to me and not a morality concern.

  • So, what's the overall story line of this show?

Do you have to be a liberal voter to like it? Stick out tongue

  • No, ML. My mom likes it too. :)

It is set in the 80's in DC. The main characters are KGB spies.  There is a marathon on FX soon. Try it.

It sounds intriguing and I'm always looking for new ways to waste time while the kids are asleep......

we could switch our heated battles to a lighter topic.

  • I just got done watching episodes #1 and #2.

    I like it - intriguing.

Huh, that's interesting that we saw the same scene such different ways. I interpreted it as him realizing the position he had put her in and feeling bad about it. But now that you mention it, it could very well be the other way. I definitely think they're going to hook up in an upcoming episode. And I don't think she's going to make it to the end of the season.

  • Also, what happened to the, er, unbalanced wife of the defense somebody or other who was sleeping with Phillip and threatened to go to the police?? I was sure she was going to pop up again and cause trouble, but she kind of disappeared.

  • She will pop up again. They don't seem to have inconsequential characters.

Also. glad you liked it ML.

  • I agree there is no way Nina makes it to the end of the season.  She's toast.  And I also agree with Ella that Beeman has feelings for her.  Maybe Phillip and Elizabeth will flip her before she does more damage to their cause.
