I got rattled on the road today. The kids and I were on our way to lunch and a crazy lady in a huge SUV began tailgating us. Honking horn. Waving. Slamming her steering wheel with her fists (I could see it in my rear view mirror).
Unfortunately, ever time I tried to move away from her toward my destination, she followed me...honking, riding my tail...I'm not sure if she was just angry or if she legitimately needed to get in the same direction as me. But when I would slow to turn, she would come up on my bumper.
I was scared. I truly needed to use my brake to handle turns safely, and she could so easily have hit us.
I'm a fairly even-keeled person, but she had me riled. Anyway, I got to lunch safely and burst unto tears up on entering a parking space.
I'm sharing just to let everyone know that most states allow you to call the police on aggressive drivers (location, plate number, vehicle description). Sadly, I was so focused on making us safe, that I didn't get enough info to be able to report her.
Re: PSA: Aggressive Driving
I'm sure where ever she had to be didn't warrant that reaction. Geesh.
Oh it did! I'm now eating a big piece of raspberry cheesecake!
Today must've been a-hole driver day. I had a Prius pull out in front of me from a side street without even stopping at the stop sign, then proceed to go through a red light to make a left turn. Shortly after another charmer pulled out right in front of me from a parking lot. I got to DH's office and asked if my car was invisible.
I can't stand people. We've had a rash of people passing stopped school buses dropping kids off around here lately. I'm just fearing the day someone hits a kid because they're too damn impatient to stop and wait for the bus.
I have actually reported aggressive drivers before, but this time it was so dangerous to pay attention to her plate that I just focused on getting to the restaurant.
I didn't report this, but it's a crazy story, so I'll share...
At our old house, we had this "neighbor" who lived at the end of the cul-de-sac. She was always speeding, racing into her garage, in a little red Lexus. Our home was on the entrance to the cul-de-sac on the right-hand side.
One night, DH and I were coming home and to make the hard right turn into our driveway, you had to sort of go a little wide left, over left of center (fine on a quiet residential street) and then up into the driveway. If you didn't do this, you'd run over grass.
Anyway, the whole way to our home, someone had been tailing us and when I went to go a little left (had my right turn signal on) to make my right-hand driveway turn, this lady tried to pass me on the right side of my car - I almost hit her as I turned into our driveway.
She zooms past, flies into her driveway, and even before her car is off, has her garage door shutting.
Unreal...then her house got foreclosed on and she "stole" all the mechanicals, appliances and copper out of it. But that's another story.
People never fail to amaze me.
Aggressive drivers really scare me too. And honestly, one of the things that really scares me, living in a state with both crazy drivers and lots of people with guns, is that someone's going to get pissed off at me for not getting out of their way at 95 miles an hour and start firing into my car. It has happened enough times that I don't think I'm crazy to fear this.
