gender reveals?

Is having a gender reveal party too AWish? If we did it would be my parents/brother and a few close friends. Casual...we'd serve dinner. We'd have balloons in a box and have my nephew help us open it. I like the idea, but don't want to be an AW:) what does GPM think?

I agree w/ PPs. If it's family and close friends done tastefully it can be very memorable and cute.

Gender reveals really aren't my style, but H wanted one. We had his parents and grandparents over and my parents, my sisters and their spouses/children. We had dinner and then cut the cake that had the frosting of the color of the baby we were having. It was really fun, especially since it is his family's first baby since H and the first time anybody in my family found out what we were having before the birth (both my sisters have always been Team Green).

I think something small and intimate like that is fun. Honestly, I have thought about doing one with #2, just so Lily can open a box of balloons and photograph her reaction.

We were going to have one,but got way too excited and couldn't keep our mouths shut... I love them! Though I've never been to one. One of my friends just sent out personalized scratch offs in the mail. I thought that was super cute too. You have options if you don't want a party.

I think big parties are AWish, but close family is fun.

I want to do *something* to surprise the grandparents since it is the first grandbaby on both sides.

I wanted to be team green but DH really wants to find out.

I was thinking of telling them that the u/s tech couldn't tell and (if dh can keep it secret) surprise them on mother's day.

Otherwise, I think we will have family over and surprise them with a cake.

Anyone have any ideas for me? I dont want it to be a huge deal, but I do want it to be a surprise and I do want to be there to see their reactions.

I think they are cute also but only if it's something small and not a big to do. I really want to do this but just have a cook out or something. Something that we would normally do once weather gets nice. We would invite close family and cut into a cake or something along those lines.

We had two: one with Dh's parents, grandma, sister, BIL, and nephew. We had dinner and a cake that was pink inside. The other one was my parents, brother, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. We are a very close family. It was dinner and cake as well.

Everyone (our family) was coming over for cake for my birthday. They didn't even know we had the a/s yet. When everyone was there, we told them what we were doing.
