My puppy (7mo German Shepherd) hates to be bathed. Due to some skin issues with demodex mites we have to bathe him twice a week with a peroxide shampoo. This is not going well. He cries, he thrashes, he wraps his legs around my arm so I can't move. We can't afford to have a groomer do it twice a week. How can I make bath time better for all of us?
Re: Bath Time Blues
Smear some peanut butter on the far end of the tub/tub wall. Puppy gets a few licks at the PB throughout bathtime! I know one girl who's done this who will now just randomly find her dog waiting in the bathtub, hahaha!
Giving lots of praise and treats afterward can help him learn that it's a good/rewarding experience also.
You might try putting him in the tub on the days you're NOT bathing him, and giving him lots of treats and praise for standing in there quietly without any water or soap going on. He'll associate the bathroom and tub with those good things moreso than the bathing.

I have also done the peanut butter trick. Lily wouldn't eat it during the bath, but as soon as we were done, she licked it up.
Once the weather warms up (I know, it could be a while yet), see if he enjoys "playing" in the hose outside (if that's an option; not familiar with your living arrangements!). Our Boxer VASTLY prefers being sprayed by the hose out on the back patio to standing in the slippery tub inside. It's so weird, but it makes bathing her in the summer super easy!
