It seems everytime I bring up some kind of decorating idea to my FI he always shoots them down... We have both never lived on our own (besides college) so I think it's going to be hard to mesh our styles because we have both never had a place to do that on our own... I really don't know what to do. We haven't even moved in yet! Maybe it will get better by the time we move in.... Any advice?
Re: He wants to Decorate
Compromise.
There's not much else you can do...
you should each decorate half of each room! Or everything could be white, everywhere... :-)
Realistically, of course you're going to have to compromise. I like having rooms/areas that are "more mine" that I can go crazy in. My office is COVERED with photographs and plants and things that are personal to me. Common areas of the house are more universal taste but still very us (giant purple octopus painting in the dining room!)

We each chose a room and did what we wanted with it. He chose the master bedroom, bathroom, and study. I chose the downstairs bathroom, living room, and dining room.
The other rooms received a mix of both our styles and we compromised a lot on them (all 3 of his rooms are green, ugh). Is it possible that each of you choose rooms to decorate? If not, then take a look at different Pinterest ideas, HGTV online, or even just Google some different rooms and see what you both like. Then incorporate those styles into the existing home.
