SleepSack/Swaddlers Question

Hi ladies, I'm trying to decide what exactly I need. How many swaddlers would you have and how many sleepsacks would you have?

Re: SleepSack/Swaddlers Question

  • It's really hard to say because it will depend on if your baby likes or needs to be swaddled. We haven't really started using the swaddlers yet - we're still swaddling him in receiving blankets - but I think we have about 3. I have used them for naps on occasion and they don't really get too dirty if he only wears it for an hour or two. We only have the newborn size and it was too big for him at first. Around 4 or 5 weeks it started to fit him better. He was 9 1/2 pounds at his 1 month check up, so around that time.

Sleepsacks - we have another 4 of those or so that are fleece, and I think 1 or 2 cotton ones but haven't used them yet. I imagine that should be enough though. We do enough laundry that he should be able to use each for one or two nights in a row before washing them.

  • We do baby laundry every night, but we also have twins so that's a lot of laundry piling up anyway.  We changed the miracle blankets every night so we had two for each baby.  Now that they are in sleep sacks, we change them every other night or maybe every 3 nights.  We aren't as anal about doing it so much now.  They each have two sleep sacks each and it helps in case of a spit up!
Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

  • we have 3 swaddle me's but after the honeymoon period J hated being swaddled so they never got used again. we now have 3 sleep sacks that he loves and it is probably enough, though i would like to have 1-2 more. he's a spitty baby so the collars of them tend to get funky from him spitting and there isn't always a fresh one. i do his laundry probably every few days.
Thanks to our wonderful RE our family is complete!

  • Thanks ladies, this is a big help. I'm looking at returning/exchanging a few things and using my registry completion coupon today. I have two SwaddleMe's in S/M, a Halo Sleepsack swaddle in small, and then a SwaddleMe sack in small so I was thinking I should try and find a couple of fleece ones in a bigger size.

  • My baby loves his hands too much to tolerate the swaddlers. I had bought one Halo sleep sack to keep on hand, thinking I would use it when he grew out of the swaddlers, and that is what he wears every night. A friend gave us some more sleep sacks that are size 0-9 months but they don't seem long enough so we stick with ours and wash it every few days. One of these days I will buy another one.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • We started with 1 swaddleme because we didn't know if he would like it. When we realized he loved them we bought 3 more and that was all we ever needed.

     We skipped sleepsacks altogether.

  • We ended up really liking the Halo swaddlers when A needed to be swaddled.  They were great because you could swaddle their arms in or swaddle under their arms if they don't want to be swaddled anymore.  I think we had 3 of those.

Now we use fleece sleepsacks.  We have 3 Halo sleepsacks and 3 of the Carters ones with arms.  That is more than plenty, but almost all I found at consignment sales so I didn't spend much.

  • We had two swaddlemes and a NB fleece swaddle/sleep sack in the beginning. S didn't sleep well with her arms in, so we swaddled but arms out from around 1week through 7weeks. We used the fleece on colder nights. She outgrew the swaddlemes pretty quickly, and we just transitioned to a size small swaddle sleep sack.

I am in the minority, but I only bought one swaddle sleep sack per size. I bought a NB fleece, and a small cotton (born in mid December). I didn't want to buy more in case she wasn't a fan. Then, we've fortunately been able to get by on just one. We do laundry every 2-3 days and haven't had any blowouts or wet clothes in the night where we might have needed a spare.

  • Up until about 5 weeks, we used the woombie in newborn and small size for E. Then one day he stopped sleeping well in it, so we switched to the Halo swaddle sleepsack. We have two newborn size.He is 10 weeks old and almost 11 pounds, and he's right at the edge of needing to go up to size small. He still likes to be swaddled. I also have 2 large swaddlemes, one medium halo sleep sack, and a sleep sack with long sleeves. All of them were gifted or purchased at a consignment sale, so I don't have much money invested in them. We happen to have a baby that really likes to be swaddled.

  • We have 2 Swaddle me and 2 sleep sacks. One of our swaddle me is a bit too small and we haven't used the sleep sacks yet because they don't swaddle.

  • We had 5 swaddlers and used all of them. She was leaking through diapers a lot more back then, and it was good to be able to have extra before I did laundry. We never used swaddle blankets because she would always break out.

We have about 5 sleep sacks now, and use them all as well.

  • it depends on if your baby likes to be swaddled.  So I'd either only buy one to start with, or only open/wash one so you can return the others.

That said, our baby liked to be swaddled, and is a major spitter, so we used 5-- we had 2 SwaddleMes, 2 Miracle Blankets, 1 Halo 2-1 sleep sack with swaddle wings.  Favorite was the Miracle Blanket.

We just used the "Small" size, and it was a little big at first but we could get them tight enough-- you just have to fold them down a little so it doesn't touch their face.  LO now needs the next size up SwaddleMes, but the other ones still fit her fine, so price-wise the turned out the same for us.

Because our baby was a big spitter and was also swaddled during naps, 5 was a good number-- I do baby laundry every 2-3 days and we sometimes had to just swaddle with A&A blankets cuz all the others were dirty.
