What do you sing to LO?

Or what do you plan to sing for those soon to be mamas :)

We sing a lot!

Bedtime songs are...in order...mary had a little lamb, of all the ducks, you are my sunshine, five little ducks, twinkle twinkle and happy happy home.

Our favorite daytime songs are...kookaburra, sally the camel, one in the bed, itsy bitsy, B I N G O and old macdonald.

My go to song when she just wants singing and I have run out of songs is The song that never ends from Lambchops :)

I sing "Never Smile at a Crocodile" from Peter Pan with my niece. And she dances and sings along with any Mike Thompkins song. She loves that so much.

  • We're horrible parents, but when DD #1 was a newborn we would always sing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall to her because it was mindless and repetitive and now at 2 yo she asks for us to sing it.  She also just always prefers us to make up songs and will request whatever is on her mind, whatever she is looking at.  A lot of times it's sing "Delilah song" (songs about her) and last night I believe it was sing "toe song", "blanket song", and a million of her DIsney character friends.  She doesn't care what it sounds like or if it makes sense as long as it incorporates the thing she asked about.

  • At night and for naps I always either sing or hum or say "la la la" to that lullaby and goodnight song. Whatever it's called and whatever the real words are I have no idea - I generally have just been making something up.

For calming him down, we sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the ABC's back to back because they are the same tune and it makes for a nice long song if he's upset. I also sing "I Love You" from Barney and You are my Sunshine.

Daytime happy/play songs - Row Your Boat, Head Shoulders Knees and Toes, Pop Goes the Weasel, and we play Disney Pandora and dance around the house so whatever pops up there I sing along to.

  • She loves Itsy Bitsy Spider and I Stuck my Head in Little Skunk's Hole, those 2 calm her down right away.

We also sing the ABCs, Head and Shoulders, Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children, 5 Little Speckled Frogs, 5 Little Monkeys, BINGO, Old McDonald.

  • Where did you learn this songs? I typically just sing made up songs to her. I am so bad at nursery rhymes.

  • I really only know Twinkle Twinkle, You are my sunshine, BINGO, Old macdonald.

I also know 99 bottles of beer, so maybe we'll steal that. haha

  • I sing whatever Broadway song pops into my head-- "Big Spender" was one of the more questionable ones that I sang last week.

H doesn't know any nursery rhymes so sings the first line of Twinkle Twinkle then makes stuff up.

Once she's old enough to sing, too, I'm sure we'll have to get more age-appropriate songs.

  • I hum more than sing so far. Although we did do a good rendition of head, shoulders, knees and toes yesterday. I love the kookaburra song though and need to look up the words because I only remember some. We used to sing it in kindergarten and its one of my favorite kid songs.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • We sing a lot. We make up songs, sing nursery rhymes, and sing songs that we like.

Generally, in the morning, we sing "Good Morning" from Singin' in the Rain. I usually sing her "You Are My Sunshine" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Sometimes "This Little Light of Mine", "Home" (Philip Philips), "Sunshine on My Shoulders" (John Denver), "A Bushel and a Peck", "Singin in the Rain"...I have a playlist on my iPod of songs that we sing with her or dance with her to. Music is huge for us, we want her to listen to all sorts of stuff. We'll put Fleetwood Mac or The Who on the record player and sing and dance to that, too. haha

  • Everything everyone else said plus Mr.Sun, the rainbow connection,  disney and broadway pandora, lots of Jewish songs, and we make up a lot of songs as we go.

  • Lots and lots of Raffi songs - Baby Beluga, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Down By The Bay, etc.

    Nursery Rhymes.

    "A Bushel and a peck"

    "Baby Bumblebee"

ETA: Audrey and I's "song" is "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers. I just love the line, "I belong with , you belong with me, you're my sweetheart."

We also sing to her songs we like/popular songs. I have a lot of the "Rockabye Baby" cds and so I sing the words that go with those songs.

  • So many! But my faves to play are the songs on her iPod by Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan. My faves to sing are Somewhere Over the Rainbow, The Rose, The Lights (by Journey, which is about SF, her birth place!) and if course, Soft Kitty. :)
