Nothing to do in NYC - a ridiculous but true statement

I know it sounds unthinkable...because there is so much to do in NYC...but I feel like most of my friends have popped out kids and moved to the burbs.  Or even worse, have left NY completely for other parts of the country.

Beyond museums, I'm starting to think there isn't much to do, at least alone (or with my husband).  Anyone have suggestions beyond "make new friends"?  Interested to hear what others do in their spare time!!

  • Hi and welcome!  A few years ago this board was a great to meet new people but like most my IRL friends, everybody has gotten caught up living their lives and kind of went their own ways.

Sadly, I don't do much in my spare time. I've been going to a bunch of country music concerts lately, I have monthly game nights with a bunch of girlfriends, and otherwise I don't do much.

I always say I want to start coming into the city more but it never seems to happen.

  • Thanks for the welcome!!

I think I've just had a lot of energy lately to do things, but am in a rut.  Nothing seems fun, but maybe it's because it's usually just me and the hubs.  Concerts are a good idea though, I might just look for some around Manhattan right now!

  • Hi and welcome!

I don't have time for "fun" because I work full time and part time and have a daughter.  But, my part time job is a bellydancer - I teach and perform.  Most of my close friends are ladies I have met through my bellydance classes. they started out as students and we have all gotten really close over the years.  Can you take a class in something that interests you? finding people with the same interests is key.  My dance friends and I range in ages from early 20's to late 40's but we always have a great time together because we have a common interest.

  • Thanks for the advice!  I definitely need to get myself involved in something locally to make friends with common interests.
