Sorry this is long...I need to get it off my chest...
So 2 months ago, my computer just up and stopped working. I decided to take it to a local repair shop that seemed reasonable. I dropped my computer off and waited. A week passed and I had not heard anything. This is my sole laptop for work, etc. so I kinda do need it. I finally called them a week later and asked about the progress and they said "Oh, it is next on the list. We'll be working on it soon." I waited...4 days passed. I called again.
"Oh, let me check. Yeah, it was the motherboard. We're going to need to replace it and that's going to cost you. I call you tomorrow with an estimate."
2 days passed...nothing. I had to call them again. They gave me the estimate, ordered the part and I waited. A week passed. I had heard nothing. I called. He checks and says "Oh...that part hasn't come in yet and it's been a week! Oh wow...I should check on that. " Really? At this point, I was so tired of having to call the place to remind the guy to do his job...
He finally calls me a week later and it is ready. I pay him, pick up and eagerly take it home to work on it. Within an hour, I discover that NONE of the USB ports would work. So I called them. They said, bring it in, we will fix it within a day.
Ok fine. I left right then and there, took the computer in and they called me the next day and said "We need to order a part. Come get the computer and when the part comes in, we'll call you and you can bring it back and we'll install it really quick."
Ok...fine and dandy. They did mention to me that the USB's on the left side was missing entirely. I was under the assumption that they would fix that side too.
3 WEEKS PASS...no call...no nothing.
I finally go in and ask and they pull the part off their cubby and say to me "Oh, we forgot to put a sheet with it so my mother didn't know who to call...sorry about that." REALLY? So they take my computer and say "It will be ready tomorrow afternoon." While I am in there this time, I am, of course, angry and so I say "mmmhmm..." a lot. You all ladies know it. The danger noise? Well..one of his brothers decides to mock and is like "We'll take care of it...mmmhmmm..."
I wanted to slap him.
So I wait for them to call me. 5pm the next day rolls around and nothing. I finally called them and they say "Oh yea, it is ready." Wonderful...thanks for making me do the work...AGAIN...
H picks it up last night. I immediately look over it. The left USB is still missing. The driver software is not fixed and now it is making a weird creaking noise...
I called them back and they said "we'll deal with it in the morning."
So...I am livid right now. I took H with me this morning to keep me in check and to provide a male back up in an all male shop because they tended to belittle me when I was alone. The guy was a total jerk to me. Trying to say that I must have broken the piece off within the hour I had it, etc. I lit into him. I told him about everything I had felt wronged in during the process, etc. I didn't yell at him. I used my teacher voice. H said I was calmly scary. The guy finally conceded and gave me my money back.
I feel justified, but I hate being mean and I really hate taking money back from small businesses....I am so glad it is over though...

No, you were not mean.
Everything they did (or didn't do in this case) was completely unprofessional. Talk about poor customer service. And then to actually belittle you and make you feel uncomfortable- I have no words.

I don't think you were out of line at all. I worked in customer service for many years and got screamed at for far less, so I commend you control over the situation. I wouldn't feel bad about the refund either. Customer service is vital to any business
