New! Question about quitting

Hello - I am new to these boards, but thought this might be a good place to get some advice. I am about to receive a job offer (99% sure, they're just doing a background check then salary negotiations).  Based on conversations with the recruiter I am working with, I fear that this job offer will come on Monday, which is the first day of a week-long vacation for me. I do not feel comfortable quitting over the phone, but I also would like to give timely notice and move forward with my new job. Selfishly, I think the guilt of keeping this inside will ruin my vacation. In this scenario, would it be OK to quit over the phone. I know its not ideal, but acceptable? I should also note that my boss is a mentor and I do not want to burn a bridge.

  • Hopefully, you did not tell your potential new job that you can start right away because as a minimum of professional courtesy you owe your current employer at least a two week notice.

  • To clarify, I would definitely give minimally two weeks notice. My question is whether or not I should give two weeks notice over the phone, so that I could let them know as soon as possible as a courtesy rather than sit with the information for a week.
  • do not quit over the phone. very bad form. texting is even worse, as I had that with an employee before. 
  • If at all possible, quit in person.

  • If you having a stay-cation & you can't wait until the following week to quit, make an appointment with your boss & go in during your week off.

  • i wouldnt even give my two weeks notice over the phone.  I think the new job will understand the need to give your two weeks notice in person and that unfortunately with the timing you have a scheduled vacation this week. Give them a start date that

  • No matter how bad or good things are at current employer it is never a good idea to quit over the phone.  This must always be carried out in person, the submission could be via email if your boss and/or HR is off site but there again over the phone -
  • As a business owner/employer, I would like to be informed of your change in employment right away (preferably by e-mail in your case) so I can get a start on hiring a replacement. In your situation I recommend a 3-week notice before you leave on vacation,
