My brother is getting married in a DW in the south in three weeks. DH and I cannot figure out what we want to do to get down there. He refuses to fly because he is terrified of planes, so we have to drive. I thought we for sure would rent a car to keep the miles off my truck, but looking at prices I just do not see it being possible. I already am broke because of this wedding, but I am so stressed about putting 2000 miles on my truck in one week. Also, renting a car plus gas will run me around 500-600 dollars, whereas driving my own will only cost me about $300 in gas. But then people tell me I better rent a car because if anything breaks down you just get a new one. If anything happens to my own vehicle I am screwed and now have to pay for repairs. I'm not too worried about that but anything is possible.
What would you do? What makes the most sense?
Re: To rent or not to rent a car?
Tough choices.
I have an unreliable car, but am not afraid to fly. Is your attendance mandatory, are you in the wedding party? If so, if it were me, and airfares were more reasonable than the cost of driving, I'd probably go alone, miss my husb
I'm sure it is spring break that is driving up the rental prices.
I'd drive my own car if you are already broke because of this wedding.
If my car was reliable I'd drive my own car. However I'm from the school that cars are meant to be driven. I dont' worry about putting XXXX amount of miles on my car. I usually keep my cars until they finally die and I'm forced
Considering the number of miles you are planning to drive, I am assuming you are driving through multiple states. Make sure you alert your car rental company of this. It can affect your rate (make it go even higher).
