If you have granite countertops

Do you find that they scratched easily when you first had them installed? Ours went in on Weds. and weren't really used until this weekend (because the tile installer was there doing our backsplash). We haven't even cooked in the kitchen since they went in, but just setting dishes on top of them is scratching the crap out of them. This seems wrong -- I thought granite was popular because it was durable!? I know you can't cut directly on it, but I didn't think setting a small cereal bowl onto it would scratch it!

Re: If you have granite countertops

  • Are you sure it was from the dishes or did you just happen to notice it then? I ask because a similar thing happened after our corian counters were installed. We noticed scratches a few days later and were concerned if it was scratching from us but we had

  • we've had ours for almost 2 years and never noticed scratches.Unless it is just the color of ours or something.

  • we've had our countertops for one year, exactly.  i have never had an issue with scratching, and i have cut strawberries directly on my countertops with a cutco knife every morning for the past year.

  • Mystery solved... they are scratched b/c they are, in fact, marble :(. For some unknown reason Home Depot was under the impression that they were granite, but they aren't. I'm so annoyed -- I was between this stuff and quartz, and I would definitely not h

  • wow, you got a pretty good price on the marble then.  what a hassle though. I hope you get it straightened out. I was actually wondering if it was in fact marble.
  • They offered to give us a 50% discount on them, but I think we're going to have them torn back out and replaced with quartz. I know that would be a great price for carrara marble, and they truly are beautiful. But I just can't imagine how they're going to
