Do you clean your house?
Do you have dogs?
Do you have children?
This got me thinking because I feel like no matter how much I clean, it never seems like enough. I cleaned my livingroom yesterday and kitchen and bathroom on the first floor the day before and today I cleaned our upstairs bathroom and bedroom.... and I am still not done. I have DD1 and DD2's rooms left. DD1 has allergies to dust and I am going back to work on Monday and feel like when that happens I will never have time to clean the way I am now. Tell me your cleaning experiences/nightmares. What do you do to quick clean? Also, do your LOs have stuffed animals and do you "clean" them by putting them in the dryer to try to get some of the dust off? TIA.
Re: How often...
No kids, but I do have a dog (soon to be two) and two kitties - the pet hair never seems to stop haha. I clean a different zone daily, and weekly I try to do a deeper clean (things like wiping down the baseboards, etc. that I might not get to daily). few months ago I signed up for the daily emails from http://www.flylady.net - I recommend the light version of their mailings or else you'll end up with an inbox full, which I don't have time for.
They give you a different zone every week, and then a daily task in that zone (for example the zone might be your kitchen and a task for Monday is to deep clean your small appliances). I really like the challenges, and there are some basic daily cleaning steps that help keep things in check all the time. The more you get used to these, the more you can see where to squeeze in a little cleaning - I'm not very organized by nature so it's a great system for me!
i have a home binder that helps me get a clean house each week with a few things to do everyday, i found it on pintrest, but it's just so much more the cleaning, it hold are bills, contact number and everything else you can think of.. i love mine, hopes this helps
I always vow to do a few rooms each day and that never works. I typically do a whole-house clean every 2 weeks. I do a 'deep' clean every month. 1500sq ft, and No pets and no kids though -- so this might need to be adjusted.
Typical clean: wipe down bathrooms and mirrors, quick dust of whole house furniture, vacuum whole house.
"Deep clean": all of the above....plus wash entry floor, kitchen floor and bathroom floors (all tile/vinyl), wash bathroom and kitchen towels, wash bedsheets, dust windows/blinds/etc,
A clean house does WONDERS for keeping sickness to a minimum (my friends who seem to always be sick with colds, pinkeye, etc.... have dirty houses! crazy coincidence??) so the quick dust/vacuum/bathroom wipe down is essential!

I have a dog. Two kids and one on the way.
I made a two week rotation of chores to keep the house clean (3,200 square feet).
First, I do no chores on Saturday and Sunday. Second, in each two-week rotation, on the Wednesdays, I have a "free project" day, which means I have to do a chore or a task, but it's a random thing, like bathing the dog, sharpening knives, vacumming the sofas....it's not part of the regular routine.
Here's my schedule...
MON1: Laundry: Sheets, towels, linens. Sweep hardwood floor (kitchen, foyer, family room) and laundry room floor.
TUES1: Clean Master Bath.
WED1: Special Project.
THURS1: Vacuum upstairs and mainstairs. Dust upstairs.
FRI1: Vacuum main level and basement stairs. Dust main level.
MON2: Remove clutter from office, do filing, clean off kitchen desk, sort toys.
TUES2: Clean Kids' Bath and Powder Room.
WED2: Special Project.
THURS2: Laundry: Clothing.
FRI2: Iron Clothing.
I hate laundry, so I split it up so it isn't so overwhelming to me. I also divided my vacuuming and dusting based on floor (we have three finished levels). You make note that I do not have wash hardwood listed. That's because my DH does it, so it's not part of my schedule.
I realize some people like to clean more often. But, with our life schedule right now, this is what fits. I'm not willing to sacrifice cleanliness, but I do not want to be "owned" by it either.
Mondays = Bathrooms
Tuesday = Dusting and Mirrors
Wednesday = Kitchen Counters and Stove
Thursday = Kitchen floor
Friday = Change the bedclothes
Saturday = Laundry and pick up in living room and bedrooms
Sunday = vaccum and anything that needs extra attention
Every night before bed I load the dishwasher and every morning before I work, I put the clean dishes away.
I don't always have hours in the evening to catch up on the whole house, so if I focus on one thing a day,
I put my daughters stuffed animals ( we have a ton) in the dryer with a tennis ball. The tennis ball knocks them around and gets them nice and fluffy. They never smell bad. Instead of washing them so often.
I like your tennis ball with the stuffed animals in the dryer idea!
No pets but I have lots of kids in my house. I have 3 boys + 2 stepchildren +2-3 daycare kids.
Everyday: vacuum, wipe down kids bathroom (my boys still have trouble aiming), sweep, dishes, wipe down kitchen, spot clean floor. This takes a little less than 2hrs.
Once a week I clean bathrooms, dust the living room and bedrooms, wash all kids bedding and frequently used stuffed animals in the washer. This takes around 3 hrs not including the time the washer and dryer are working.
Once every 2 weeks - 1 month I dust the master bedroom, wash our bedding, clean mirrors, windows. This takes around 40min
Once every 4-8 months I move all furniture to sweep/ mop/ vacuum under it. It's all on a rotating schedule so I don't do it all at once. I clean our floors on my hands a knees. I dust picture frames and other places that don't get noticed if I go a while in between dustings. This is an all day event.
Once a year I clean out our closets, bathroom cabinets, and kitchen cabinets.
