Anyone have a root canal/crown done?

I had a root canal done a couple of weeks ago and am going for the permanent crown next week. What's involved with the process? I go to a sedation dentist and was really out of it when they did my dental work, so all I remember them telling me is that getting the permanent crown will be no big deal at all. The temp crown feels nice and secure, so I'm curious as to what 'no big deal' entails here:P

Re: Anyone have a root canal/crown done?

  • I have a crown, but no root canal.

It wasn't bad nor did it hurt but it was very time consuming making it fit correctly. My jaw was sore from holding my mouth open for an hour and a half.

  • seriously, it isn't a big deal.  They will pop off the temporary crown. It feels weird, but I don't remember it hurting at all. then they glue in the permanent one after setting it in place first without the glue to make sure it fits correctly.

  • Thanks ladies, I appreciate the feedback. I am horribly scared of the dentist (hence the sedation dentist!), so this helps a lot. And I think they did the impression for my crown when I had the root canal, so hopefully it won't take quite as long.
  • Let me tell you that thing is going no where! They did an impression, it is just a really, really tight fit.

  • I havent had the root canal but have done the crown. Changing out the temp with permanent is the easy part! The part before was hard and I go to a sedation dentist place too and had Valium for that part! But putting on the permanent crown was so easy.

  • I have had 3 crowns and root canals...the experience with the temp crown is much worse IMO (longer, tiring, sore) than the real perm crown. Like Amanda said before, they literally pop off the old one and put on the new one. You'll bite a few pieces of

  • I'm being put under for 3 hours next Monday for 2 crowns and other work.  I just realized I have no clue if I'll have to go back for permanant crowns or if thats why it is going to take so long.  Think I might have to give them a call.
