Can you have pink eye without the pinkness?

Wes came down with a really bad cold this week. Yesterday his eyes started watering and this morning he woke up with them sealed completely shut (SO sad -- he was crying "mommy where are you?")! They are still very watery and glassy looking, but not pink. Does that sound like sinuses, or pink eye? We have a dr's appt in a few hours, but I was debating whether we should have lunch at my parents' house as planned, or skip it if we think he could have pink eye...

  • Garrett has had a few bad colds where a lot of the drainage has come out of his eyes, like you've described.  I don't have experience with pink eye though (knock on wood!), so I can't say how to determine between the two.  It sounds like it coul
  • Eleni gets snot backed up in her sinuses all the time and it causes the sticky eye problem.  If he has a could, I wouldn't assume it is pink eye. especially without the other symptoms.  And if it still isn't red now I doubt it is pink eye

  • Yeah I think a blocked tear duct is common during a cold. It has happened to my daughter a couple of times. Try massaging the corner of his eye with a warm wash cloth.

  • Sounds like viral conjunctivitis (cold in eye). I've had it happen the last couple winters with a bad cold. I called my eye dr last year because it was taking awhile to clear up and they advised coming in. He confirmed it wasn't pink eye but said viral

  • Just chiming in because Liam woke up with pink eye this morning :(  Like Amber, I also consider myself to be a pink eye expert, and my kids always have the redness going on in addition to the goop and film over the eye.

    I hope Wes is feeling

  • Thanks girls! He said it's likely just backed up sinuses. He seems susceptible to this (had it a few times as a newborn). He did prescribe drops to use a precaution to prevent it from turning into an infection. We have the neighborhood egg hunt tomorrow a
