Post baby periods

I know everyone says it can take up to a year for cycles to normalize after baby, but I am at almost 11 months PP and am nowhere near normal.  AF started up at 8 weeks PP and I have had one every month since then, but they are still all over the place in terms of timing.  My last few cycles have been 31, 27, 30, 24, and now 29 and counting for this one.  Did anyone else take longer than a year to get back to normal?

Always missing my Mommy (1954-2010) and Daddy (1943-2012)
TTC since 2009 ; BFP 9/13/10 = MC 10/21/10
DX = DOR/POA (AMH=1.1; AFC=4-5)
Surprise BFP 8/31/11 while waiting to cycle for IVF
Welcomed our little miracle 5/7/12

Re: Post baby periods

  • That's not too far from the "normal" cycle of 28 days. Anything can change your cycle length. Breastfeeding, lack of sleep, stress, change in diet, exercise, age, etc. If it was going beyond 40 days maybe i'd mention it to my OB but the 30's is still norm
  • my cycles was messed up for 15 months after having a baby.. i am back to 30 day cycles and 4 days ovulation. i would mention this to your OB. my OB wasn't concern. He mentioned that he would be more concerned if I didn't get my period. good luck :)

  • I guess I should have mentioned for the charters that it is actually my LP that keeps changing, which is the part that should be relatively stable.  I guess my progesterone level just hasn't normalized yet.

  • I don't know anything about charting or luteal phases, but mine has been all over the place too, and we are both 11 months pp. however, I got an IUD back in August so I've been just attributing my messed up periods to that.

  • I got on the mini pill 6 weeks PP, but didn't get my period back until 8mo pp so I've had it for 4 months now and it's pretty regular 28-30days. I  miss not having it because it is God awful now. :(

  • What you're describing is my "normal". I adjusted back to that rather quickly. I agree with pp that if your cycle length isn't 40+ I wouldn't be concerned. Hopefully it'll be back to normal for you soon!
