Ugh, just got off the phone with my insurance (Aetna) and I'm LIVID.
I called to find out what my coverages are with Affordable Care Act and the requirements with breast pump coverages. Um yeah, I can only get a pump rental coverage unless the babies are hospitalized after I am released. And then, they ONLY cover the pump rental until baby/babies are released. Well, that's some sh!t!
So I was asking the lady, so if this is law, why this run-around? By January, everyone's plans were supposed to include coverage (am I correct?) and now you're telling me that there's nothing to offer me? She kept saying my plan is "Grandfathered". Well, I kept pushing the issue saying what would that have to do with anything and she explained it to me that CVS Pharmacy (my DH's employer) has decided to not participate in the ACA and that they would rather take penalties from the government. That means no lactation consultant coverage either.
My mind is blown. I kinda want to cut somebody.
The more I thought about it, it's probably because CVS employees shop at CVS (because of the 20% discount) and they probably don't want to lose formula revenue. However, they just made national news about their new health care initiatives that are requiring employees to get a wellness check every year and submit height/weight stats or else pay an additional $500 a year. This is in an effort to "encourage" their employees to be healthy. But yet, they're in a sense discouraging their employees to breast feed. We already pay out over $200 a month for both of us on a very mediocre, deductible-based plan. In terms of health care, I know we could have it much worse, I know. But I'm frustrated and disgusted with this company. Yet, they pay the bills. ![]()
I kinda want to stick it to the man, but I don't know how or what I would do! Any thoughts? Now I have to figure out the pump situation and since I'm going to be trying to BF two, I kinda want a good one to keep me supply up.
Re: Breast pump, again
That stinks, sorry to hear it. I guess you just have to take advantage of what you do have access to. If you can get short term access to a hospital pump def use it. Those suckers (pardon the pun) are way better then any pump you'll get in a store.
That sucks. I work for the state and shockingly their breast pump coverage is similar--only a rental and only if and when you are separated from a baby in the NICU.
In addition to pp suggestions I'd check out ebay. I think I mentioned it in
When did your policy year start? I found out that because my policy started last year in August they do not have to make any changes with this coverage until the policy that starts in 2013. I won't get anything. And FWIW my son was in NICU
