  The concept of double jeopardy doesn't really apply here because she is being tried under Italian laws (which allow for the state to appeal criminal verdicts).  That being said, the US could refuse to extradite her on that basis.  She can still

  That's what I'm wondering- if the US would refuse to extradite her on the basis of US double jeopardy laws, since she's back here and obviously wouldn't return to Italy willingly to sit the same trial.

  Correct, no new charges. It would be their second bite at the apple.  I'm not an extradition expert either.  I think if the shoe were on the other foot though we would expect another country to extradite someone to us but we'll see what hap

  I read an intriguing article in Rolling Stone a few years ago while the trial was going on that really made me think she was innocent.  I have a friend that is "so sure" she is guilty.  Her opinion is based on a gut feeling.  L

  If you want to read a book on the case, "Fatal Gift of Beauty" was a very interesting read.  I also read "Death in Italy" on the subject.  Her memoir is forthcoming.

  I saw the tv movie and thought it was pretty good.  I'd be interested in those books and her upcoming memoir too.  I did not know that about the director--interesting!

  I'm late to the convo but I think it's actually very likely the U.S. would extradite her. In 2010, a federal court in California extradited a man to Mexico after he was first acquitted, then re-tried. The guy tried claiming double jeopardy laws but the U.
