I just went to my HR and set up a new automatic payroll distribution into our emergency fund savings account from each paycheck, and I feel great!
In the past I've transferred it manually, and there have been months I've been tempted not to because I hate to see my checking amount go down, but now it will happen automatically, and it's for twice the amount I usually deposit. (I just got a significant raise, so I can afford it).
My husband and I have always been responsible about money, but now that we're settled in our house and don't have all the moving expenditures, we've really wanted to refocus on growing our savings, especially knowing that home maintenance can be so expensive.
We decided that we both need to increase the amount going into our savings accounts (we have regular savings, and then a separate emergency fund account that we have literally never withdrawn from.)
I've learned a lot from reading posts here since joining, and I feel like i wouldn't have been so motivated to make the step if I hadn't seen so many posts here about emergency funds being not just a good idea, but a necessity.
All that to say, thanks everyone!
