Ok, that was a ridiculously long acronym, but it works I guess. ![]()
So this past weekend, DH and I were up at his parents house and his mom mentioned a place that does elective ultrasounds for early gender determination for I believe $50. To me, that seems like a good price, and I would love to know the gender before 20 weeks, but I don't know much about elective ultrasound places and how they work, what's generally included, etc. I'm assuming you get an ultrasound picture, which I would love to have. I feel like two ultrasound pictures isn't enough, and $50 seems worth it to see baby again. ![]()
Two things though, DH thinks it's a waste of money, even though it would be his mom paying for it (he's a very frugal person). Also, he doesn't like a lot of attention and wanted to find out alone with just the two of us, then tell the family. I'm not sure how the elective u/s would work, if they could just have us in there at first to announce the gender, then the family could join afterwards?? I would really like just us to find out together, then have the family come in and see baby, and I really want to see baby again before 20 weeks. I'd love to have more than two u/s pics to remember this pregnancy by.
I guess I should add that his mom never said she wanted to be in there with us, but I am sure that's what she's hoping for. This is her first grandchild, same with my parents, so I feel like I need/want to include them in this pregnancy more than we would with future children.
Another question I have is when is the earliest they can get an accurate result for gender?
So if you were in my shoes, WWYD?
Re: WWGPMD? Elective U/S Related
I was team green so I am no help with the wanting to find out early part but I don't think they can accurately tell the sex before 16 weeks. I know a lot of people get a guess at their 12 week NT scan but it is just that...a guess.
I got a bunch

Madeline - I totally agree, I don't think it's worth it to pay if it's too early. I was thinking 16 weeks or so. I just would really like more u/s pics of the progression of baby's growth, since I'm only getting the 10 and 20 week ultrasounds (my offic
Oh okay I get what you are saying
I thought you meant they only gave you one! I had an u/s at 9 weeks, 19 weeks and then I got an extra one at 20 weeks because I was having braxton hicks already and they didn't look at my cervix at my a/s.

Wiggy - I should've clarified.
I am okay with her being there, as long as she would be okay with coming in after H and I found out together, or leaving before we find out (and I think she would). If she comes, I would assume DHs dad would also be th

we do have a couple of girls here that had elective scans done prior to 20 weeks that turned out to be wrong. so keep that in mind.
i wouldn't be ok with family being in the room, in the waiting room, in the parking lot or waiting at my house for
I hope this can be a big family bonding thing for all of you...that would be nice! I do not have a good relationship with my inlaws and my mom is a little pushy and competitive as well so this whole situation would be super tricky for me. If you think

The price is normal for around here, we paid 65$ to find out at 15 weeks, I think you have to be at least 15 for them to tell (the place would not do it until 15 weeks)... It was well worth it, the set up there and their machines are so much better tha
I'm in the same situation as you are.
I really want to find out what we are having but after I talked to my dr she said they don't recommend more ultrasounds then the ones they are already doing for medical reasons.
I was going to go
Venti - I totally agree. The last thing I want to do is force him into anything, but if I can get him on the same page I'd definitely want to go. I'd just like to have that privacy when we first find out, and then share the news with the family.
We did it only because we wanted to find out for Christmas so we could surprise ourselves and our families. My a/s wasn't until January. Otherwise we would have waited for the a/s. I have had 8 ultrasounds so far with this pregnancy t
Do you get a DVD? If so, I would do it. Our elective place gave us a DVD of the whole u/s. So later at home we could see the moment we found out if it was a boy or a girl, and could see her movements. I love having that DVD.&nbs
1.) I didn't want anybody but my husband there when we found out the sex of our child. It sounds like your husband doesn't want a full room either. I think you should respect his wishes. Maybe he will get emotional and cry and doesn't want people to se
