Christmas Cards?

Have you guys started/finished/somewhere in the middle?  Do you send out pictures, even if you're just a couple?  I sent out a wedding pic to family and close friends only last year, because we were married last year, but I don't know if it's lame to send a picture this year.

What do you think?

Re: Christmas Cards?

  • I did them one year. What a pain. Never again.

I am buying a few nice cards at a local shop today to put our parents' gifts in, but that's it. Honestly, I only know maybe 2 people who ever send out Christmas cards.

  • We do a photo card every year even though it's just the two of us mainly because G is lazy and I got tired of fighting with him about sending out handwritten cards. I'm not even sure we'll do any cards this year. I'm just not feeling it and I know G would never take the lead.

  • i can be a huge scrooge, but i actually love doing xmas cards. we typically do a standard card -- usually the Unicef ones because i think they are the cutest and have beautiful, diverse, non-religious messages that are appropriate for all.

i've never felt the need to do a photo card tho. that seems like more work. and i figure peeps know what we look like, lol. i love getting them however, especially when people have fantastic photos of their adorable kids/pets or  fabulous vacation or something.

  • Gypsy, I bought cute UNICEF ones, too!  I have the blue background with the one snowflake.

I'm trying to determine if any of our vacation pics are cute enough.  I love getting pictures.  Maybe I should try to get one of the cats all curled up together.

I am 90% done with all of my family, friends; hubz hasn't started b/c he's on a work trip.  I don't send a picture, but I do write a note in every card.  There is nothing I hate more than an unsigned picture card or a "love, the smiths" as the only note.  Why bother?

ETA: Gypsy, I *love* the UNICEF cards!  I have a note in my calendar to go buy them on sale on Dec 26th ;-)   Even though it goes to UNICEF, they are pricey!

  • I tend to try to do WAY too much at Christmas. WAY. So one of the things I cut last yr was the cards. Before that, I always sent them out - pics only the yr we got married, otherwise just a pretty card with a short note.

Whenever we have kids Ill start the cards back up but right now there is only so much time and this was a no-brainer for me to cut.

  • We do picture cards mostly even though it's just the two of us. We try to do something funny though. We don't send cards every year. But this year I think I might even attempt the dreaded Christmas letter to go along with the cards.
  • For the first time ever this year, we did photo cards.  They turned out nicely.  I'll probably also do the letter.  I haven't sent sh!t. Wink
  • We're doing e-cards this year. ?We are cheap.
  • yay for Unicef cards! and no doubt, they are not cheap. i usually get a few different kinds. but i really love the ones that win the greeting card contest -- of kids' drawings. too cute.

your kitties are adorable, bunny. i would love a photo card of them!

  • I just did finish writing out cards but I cut way back this year sending only about a dozen out as compared with about 3 dozen usually. Unless people I am not sending them to send me one, then I will put one in the mail to them.

As for pictures, a few people get DS's school pic.  A couple of times in the past I have sent photo cards of me, DH & DS.

  • We're sending out Hanukkah cards (we also sent out Rosh Hoshanah cards), and DH asked if I wanted him to pick out Christmas cards, too, but I told him no at the time.  If we do them, I want to pick them out.  Maybe I'll do that today.

I think couple-only pictures are awkward.  Pets are definitely cute, though.

  • i'm sending them this year but I still gotta get the film developed so I probably wont send them out until right before christmas at the earliest.
  • Not started yet. We managed to send some one year. I feel like I should make them myself since I'm a designer but I never get around to it Embarrassed

This year mr. wants to do a photo card with the baby so that ought to absolve me of coming up with something clever and they might actually get done and sent out this year (meaning before 2009, lol).

  • Haven't started yet but my day planner has them checked for the day after Thanksgiving.  Embarrassed  The procrastinator in me wins every time!

I have every intention of ordering photo pics online tonight.  I've never done the photo cards before and the fam gives me a hard time about it.  I guess I should appease them with a recent shot of the kid.  Wink

  • I'm not doing cards this year. Too much of a PITA. Maybe we'll send them when we have kids.

  • I feel ya on the way too much, PGH.

Only instead of cutting out cards, I started making them myself (brilliant). I finally finished embossing them the other night, and I have them all addressed. I need to print out the pictures, sign, and send.

I used to do regular cards and write in every one. That's awkward for people I see all the time. Now I handwrite at least "Merry Christmas, Love, Pescalita & Mr.P" in every one, and write a bit about what we've been up to for the relatives we never see. I started with photo cards two years ago with a picture for our wedding. It's tough to come up with something photo-worthy w/o kids - this year I'm using Mr.P's graduation and our vacation, next year thank God we'll have a dog to use!

Christmas cards are not something I'll ever give up. I actually keep the ones I get hanging up all year long - I just took down last years. I really like the reminder of our family and friends that love us (not that a card = love, it's just fun). We do about 40, but we have large families. We probably get a good 20-25 back.

  • I don't think I am going to do them this year.  I can't add another thing to my do to list.  I figure in a couple of months everyone will get a baby announcement and that will do the job!

  • Haven't started. Will probably buy a box of cards the next time I'm at Target and print out little labels for the envelopes sometime soon. I think last year I mailed them on Dec. 22.
  • E81, Target has some adorable cards this year!  I got some that are on the smaller side (maybe 3x5?) and they have cute embellishments, like ribbon or tiny amounts of glitter as an accent.  Very fun, and I've already gotten lots of compliments.  Plus, they are $6 for 10 cards!  yay!
  • I'm a godless heathen and bad person mixed into 1. ?I don't send out cards. ?A few years ago I bought some but never sent them. ?Then I thought I'd send them for xmas in July. ?2 years later I still had them.

115? Last year I sent out 180, for family and clients combined. I stress on my cards every year. Given my business, I can't do pre-made cards, so I always make them. When I started sending them to family and clients, my designs were unbelievably time consuming, then I just had my staff assemble them. This year I decided to do easier cards so I didn't have to pay staff to assemble, and then decided to cut my list way down. I'm still sending to family/friends, but I cut down the list of vendors/colleagues and clients to my favorites. Only my very favorite clients will get a card from me this year! :) They are awesome cards, though. The 5 of you on the card exchange should like them!

That reminds me, the guts for the cards are sitting on my desk and I need to get started on them. Bleh.

  • I can play in the mud with you non-card senders though - Mr.P has not yet sent out his thank you notes from his graduation in May (maybe a little public humiliation here will help?). They're actually all written now, just not addressed. This is #1 to do after finals, hopefully people remember what the heck they're for.
