What does adopting a child really cost?
Does anyone know or have the experience? We are always hearing how it is "so" expensive but what does that mean exactly?

But, I think there is an adoption board over on The Bump.
International adoptions are quite expensive. A friend spend 30K for an international adoption, a good part of that was travel (twice) to the country of origin and the 6 week stay that was required. Psych exams, medical exams for both parents
If you adopt through foster care, costs are minimal. We only paid for a few things, like a doctor's appointment for me. (Our adoption disrupted after 5 days.)
For a domestic infant adoption, the fee for a good agency in our area was $
The agency we went with has our total costs of around $7-9K. However, they are a small agency and don't do a ton of outside promoting.
Other places we looked at were $16K, $18K (based on where we fell on their sliding scale), and $21K.
