Wedding Checks

So I just married my love this weekend and looking through our cards I noticed the majority of them are made out to both of us or Mr. and Mrs. My question is, can I sign for the check to be cashed before my name is officially changed?

You are officially Mrs. once the ceremony is over. It is just taking the time to get throught the steps. What I did with our wedding checks is I signed maiden and married name and had hubby sign too (so 3 signatures on back.)

I would contact your bank and ask how to handle that. I know women who were not changing their names and were unable to cash checks made out to them by people who assumed they were taking their husband's name.

If the checks are made out to Mr. and Mrs. X, you both need to sign the back of the checks or deposit them in a joint account. For these checks, you should contact your bank to ask how they would like you to handle the situa

Check with your bank. Ours told us that if we were depositing them, and not cashing them, then we didn't need to sign the back at all. They just stamped them "deposit only," and put them into our account.

Generally, the names on the checks have to match the sigs on the backs and the owners of the account. That's typical banking rule. However, as PPs mentioned, your local branch may do it differently for you.

When I got married 2 years ago, my husband signed all the checks that were made out to both of us. The bank didn't bat an eyelash. I don't know if it made a difference that everything went straight into savings.
