Two FF-Questions Re: Weight Gain

Ok, so first question:

Is it normal not to have gained any weight yet? I've actually lost 5-6 lbs since the beginning (and have not had morning sickness, just some nausea and food aversions). I've been trying to keep eating throughout the day, and feel like I'm eating as much as I normally do, but I am having a hard time eating that extra few hundred calories that pregnant women are supposed to get. I just always feel like I'm overeating when I try. So I've just been eating when I'm hungry.

 Second question:

I am a little nervous about how much weight I will gain by the end of this pregnancy. I've heard of women gaining 60 or more lbs, which is way more than the 20-25 lbs that the doctor suggests, and I don't want that much weight for two reasons: I have bad knees and I'd be terrified to look at the scale. How much weight did you gain, and has it come off easily (if you've already had baby)?

Re: Two FF-Questions Re: Weight Gain

  • First off, try not to worry too much about the weight gain and just try to be healthy. If you are eating a healthy balanced diet and doing light exercise then your body will gain what it needs to...whether that is 20lbs or 60lbs.

    I didn't gain an

  • Everybody is different and most important is just that you're maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle.  If you are, try not to focus on the numbers on the scale and trust that your body will do what it needs to in order to make sure you and baby

  • Thank you ladies!

It's good to hear that it only takes a few months to come off, and I know that BFing has a lot to do with that (which I will be doing). I guess I just anticipated gaining 60 lbs then only losing part of that after baby was born

  • It's normal to not start gaining weight right away. I gained the most during 3rd tri, but that's also when baby is gaining the most. I gained 28 lbs total and lost it all within a few months.

  • I didn't gain much till the end.

I gained almost 50lbs and was miserable at the end but I am down almost 40lbs at 12 weeks out. Only 10 more to go.

  • I would not be worried about a lack of weight gain at this point.

I gained 50 with DS. I did not watch what I ate nor did I really exercise like I should have. I lost it by 6 months and have since lost another 15lbs.  I worked my a$$ o

  • I didn't gain anything until almost half way.  As of my last appointment, I'm up 10 pounds.  As long as your doctor is happy with your weight, I wouldn't worry about the scale at all.

  • I agree with the others - dont worry too much about weight and listen to your doctor.

I have had a reduced appetitie (up until about 18 weeks?) I still do some days.

do no skip meals. I will make myself eat (even if it isn't a lot) if it

  • Weight gain during pregnancy is so personal, and it can be very emotional when you start to compare to others (for me, at least). I lost weight during first tri even though I didn't have any morning sickness. I didn't have any net gain until 22 weeks. I E

  • I gained 40 pounds, and 20 came off immediately. I'm still holding onto the last 10, probably from breastfeeding. I'm one of the lucky ones who has a hard time losing the weight because of BFing. I'm hoping that the rest will come off once we wean, as I a

  • I started gaining around 14 weeks and I only gained 30lbs in total and lost 25 of it within a week of having her. I am actually 3lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight now.
