Sharing hotel room with 3 year old?

we are driving 3 to 3.5 hours away to visit family.  technically we could drive there an back the same day making it a 6 or 7 hour drive in 1 day. i just starting thinking it might be fun to stay in a hotel and use the swimming pool and break up the commuting but when i think of the logistics of how we are going to get our 3 year old to fall asleep when we are all in the same room together i'm just not sure if that will work.  We've travelled with him before and slept in teh same room but have never been in a situation where we were all stuck in the same room. i'm thinking the only option is for all of us to go to sleep at 8:30/9pm (his bedtime).?!  just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts, suggestions, opinions on how that has worked for their families.

  • For one night, it won't be too bad.  In the past, we've put the kid(s) to sleep with the tv off and the room dark.  Then, once they're asleep, we'd put the tv on with the volume low and just watch tv for an hour or two.   I have also taken

  • What we do is if its only a day or two, we let Faith have a special night where she can stay up late with us the hour or two. If its for more than 3 days I'd stick to bedtime and make adjustments to our schedule where we have quiet time until I know the k

  • These are all really great suggestions, sorry to be the only debbie downer, lol. I think our problem was that none of us were prepared for it and G was totally out of sorts - just having flown for the first time and everything.

  • We did it with a 4 year old for 2 weeks! 1 night will be fine. I'd suggest just letting him stay up a little late and then see how things are once asleep. Some nights dd was so sacked out that we could turn on tv after she was asleep for a little bit. Oth

  • We just let the kids lay in bed and watch TV or read until they fall asleep.  When Garrett was younger, and had a harder time falling asleep, one of us would walk him him up and down the hallway in his stroller, until he was out.  They also usua
