Is today UO day? I have one...
I hate diaper cakes! I don't think it's cute, what a rolled up diaper mess and all the time it took someone to put it together!
The shower I went to last weekend, I sheet you not she got three! Three. A cake, bike, and a wreath. Her mom kept saying 'oh, she will have those forever hanging in the room' ... I would unwrap it and use it.
Did you get one? Do you make them? Tell me about it 
Also, at said shower we played the game 'write a message on the diaper for a late night change' I wouldn't like that either, I don't want writing on their little butts.

I think they're cute, but not for decoration. Those things should be taken apart right away and used before opening any other pack of diapers (assuming they're the right size).

I don't really have an opinion on diaper cakes, but I agree, Id take it apart and use it! Especially with how expensive diapers are.
What I really don't like are the realistic baby shaped cakes. I saw a video of one and it was hard to watch them

I got diaper cakes from my MIL for both my girls. My MIL makes them to be taken apart, she used baby bottles for the structure and decorated it with things we would use like lanolin, butt paste, pacis, some toys, etc.
