Valentin Imperial Maya vs. Excellence Riviera Cancun

DH and I are going to Cancun for a week in October and are trying to decide between the VIM and ERC. Any recommendations and why you would choose that particular resort? I am trying to keep the entire trip to about $2500 (including airfare from LAS as well as 5 nights at the resort).
