For all you contact lens wearers...

So H and I went to the eye doctor semi-recently and I finally got around to putting all my boxes of contacts in our drawer for them in the bathroom closet...and was very unpleasantly surprised to see 10 (yes, TEN!) boxes of my H's unused contacts sitting in the drawer.  Especially when the 10 additional boxes he just ordered were sitting on the bathroom counter.

After talking to him I realized that all the boxes left in the closet were "old" prescriptions.  I was absolutely furious as they cost like $30 a box, and especially furious because I just spent a month using up all my "old" contacts before starting to wear my "new" contacts (seriously, a +/- 0.25 isn't going to make much difference in vision...at least enough to let a $30 box of contacts go to waste.  Or 10, if you are my H...).

So, so, so mad at him for being so frivolous and wasteful.  Of course I wanted to see what I could do with them, and after googling the issue was a little disappointed to find that the consensus was that you couldn't sell them anywhere.  However, I came across one blog post saying that 1800Contacts.com would buy and/or credit you back for contacts even if you hadn't purchased from their website.

Well, I sent a message to their customer service today, and not only did they respond within 15 minutes....they are going to give me a $339 credit for their website!  How awesome is that?  In this day and age where good customer service seems nonexistant, I was floored not only by how fast they got back to me but by how much they'll credit me for!  He said they sell the particular type of contacts we have for $33.99 a box, so we're getting 100% of a credit, which is great.

Anyways, this post got to be a bit long - but if you are a contact lens wearer and have any unopen, unmarked, unexpired by at least a year boxes of contacts, you can at least get a credit for them.  Just thought I'd pass the tip along!

  • Good to know! Although FYI I just found out my contacts were $100 cheaper (for a year's worth) at Walmart vs. 1800 Contacts.

  • Dude, I can't tell you how much I love 1800 Contacts. They are so sophisticated and on top of their customer service. My favorite part is that you can upload a picture of your Rx and it's approved within 24 hours. I would be on a commercial for them.
