My Birthday

So my birthday is coming up, and we been pretty busy lately so I'd like to use it as an excuse to do something special or at least spend a night together. A date night like we used to have before we were married. husband hasn't mentioned the fact that my birthday is soon, except for once a couple weeks ago. The only thing is I feel guilty making a 'big deal' out of my birthday, especially since husband's birthday was during a very stressful time where we couldn't really do anything special to celebrate. (Husband is very big on celebrating on the actual date, like it isn't the same if we do it a different day). It always seems like this happens to his birthday every year--which he always remarks on when it happens again. Which makes me feel even guiltier about mine. Not sure what to do. I don't want to ignore my own birthday, but I don't really want to be the one to bring it up.

Re: My Birthday

  • I tell MH every year what I want to do for my birthday and he likes it this way. He says by me telling him, he knows that I will be happy. So I say who cares if you bring it up. He is your husband. Tell him what you want.

  • I agree with PPs - telling him what you want is the only way you're going to get it.

To deal with the issue of his "forgotten" birthday, when you bring up yours, I would let him know that you plan to fix things for him in the future. Can you star

  • I agree with PPs he isn't a mind reader. Heck I even put together a wish list and update it before every gift occasion. My H loves this, he still gets to pick the gift but he can't go wrong.

As to your Hs Bday he needs to stop the idea of h

  • I say you shouldn't feel guilty for having stress at your husband's b-day. Tell him what you want for yours. He should be happy if you are happy. Right? That's love, isn't it? If you don't mention your b-day and he forgets, both of you will feel bad, and
  • I don't understand why he gets to have an ALL ABOUT ME day on his birthday every year, but you do not? It's your birthday and if you want to celebrate or go out to dinner, I think that's pretty reasonable.
  • Like pp have said, the only way he's going to know is to tell him.  My husband actually prefers that I am the one to bring something like that up, because then he knows that he will be doing what I want and I'll be happy.  If he wants something
