Restaurants...without servers. Thoughts?

I have been reading a lot about how restaurants are suffering and even some restaurants (olive garden and red lobster are examples) are thinking of transitioning to a Panera format where you order at the counter. What are your thoughts on eating out? I don't go out to eat like I used to but This past weekend we went to Don Pablo's (which i used to love) and our service was so bad that i never want to go back.  We decided we will stick to our fav places only now.  I see why restaurants are suffering... It sucks I used to love going out to eat, but now find it a waste of money.  What about you?

Re: Restaurants...without servers. Thoughts?

  • I agree, that would be just fine with me! I go out to eat so that someone else can cook for me, the waiting on me part doesn't really matter. And, as you said, a bad server can really mess up your dinner. Plus, it would save us the $8+ dollars we normally

  • I am a princess and I like to be waited on.  It's part of the whole experience...if I want to serve myself I'll go somewhere less expensive and more kid friendly.  But, if I'm going out to sit down - I want to sit in the booth and let someone el

If I want to be waited on, I want to be waited on. There is something about the atmosphere being more formal with servers. Also, if we have the kids with us, then we have to juggle kids, food trays, etc.

  • Not that all servers are bad but lets face it...it is really annoying when your server disappears for a significant amount of time and need a refill or a check or want to order desert!  My sister once witnessed a server making fun of a mentally&nb

  • I'm not opposed to that style if they were to well publicize that they were switching to that. Then if I want to be waited on, I can choose to go elsewhere. I can see both sides!

  • Well, if it's a nice dinner out that's a different story. But if we were going somewhere like OG or RL (which we don't, but those are the examples), I wouldn't mind. I too don't find the servers at those kinds of places to be particularly attentive on the

  • I love restaurants and eating out. if I'm going for lunch, I'm okay with a panera style place, but if I'm giong out to dinner, I don't want to do any work. I want a server coming to my table, taking my order, bringing me drinks, etc. It's enough dealin

  • We go out to eat a lot, and I wouldn't be a fan. Places that already do this is one thing, but I don't see how it would work for a sit down restaurant to change to this style of dining.

Plus, when it comes to entree type meals, I think it wou
