Credit card suggestions for new credit?
Hi everyone, I'm new here although I've come to lurk every so often. My fiance has finally become aware of his lack of credit, as his car was totalled in January and he went out trying to get a car loan. He has a low score, in the high 500s, mostly due to the fact that (1) he has never had any credit cards or loans and (2) he has a few small amount in collections that we are working on paying off one by one.
The credit report he pulled up online said that him getting a credit card and using it responsibly would raise his credit score. Does anyone have any sugestions on what kind of card to get or how to go about getting one? I've acquired mine throughout the years by getting offers in the mail. The few he's ever received and asked me to look at have ridiculous initial and yearly fees. Is this his only option?

A secured card is probably his best bet with a low credit score. Like the previous poster said you can try a local bank or credit union as these may be the easiest. If you don't have accounts with a local bank you can go to whatever ba

When the time comes, consider getting two cards...like VISA and MasterCard since they are accepted everywhere (Discover and American Express are not).
Use one more frequently than the other, but keep the second
