Since she's a week old I figured I needed to get this typed up so I actually remembered it ![]()
Thursday (March 28th) I got home from work after deciding that it would be my last day in the office due to commuting and just feeling like I couldn't handle it any more. I got home and noticed that my bathroom habits had changed, I'd been relying on Colace the entire pregnancy and all of a sudden I no longer needed it. That was the first tip off that something was going on. I had Friday off of work so I used that time to get everything ready and get a mani/pedi before DH and I rented several movies for a lazy Saturday at home. We had an enjoyable Saturday morning of sleeping in and just hanging out while I had some slightly uncomfortable contractions. By about 2:30 on Saturday afternoon I started timing them because they were becoming more intense and frequent but I didn't want to go to L & D until I was positive that this was going to be it. After they became about 5 minutes apart and I noticed blood tinged mucus when wiping I figured we needed to make the call and head over.
We got to triage around 5:30 PM and they monitored me for a bit and checked my cervix. After that my OB (she was actually on call that weekend!) let me know that they were admitting me and that I would be having my baby. They moved me to a delivery suite and I got my epidural around 6:45 and was still feeling pretty good. I was nervous about the epidural after hearing several horror stories from friends but it was actually painless. They continued checking me and I was making steady progress so they went ahead and broke my water at about 8 PM while DH and I watched the NCAA Men's Tournament on TV.
Around 2:15 AM I started having the urge to push but wasn't quite there yet so they had me labor down until 3:45 and I was able to sleep off and on. At 3:45 I started to push and she was born at 5:32 AM on Easter Sunday. I ended up with a very minor 2nd degree tear and was up and moving shortly after she was born. They put her on my chest immediately and we were able to delay cutting the cord. Everything seriously went exactly how I wanted it to and it was an amazing experience with a perfect little girl. She was 7 lbs 1.1 oz and 19.5 inches long. I can't believe how in love with her I am!!
